Giulio, a film student working on his thesis, spends most of his time at the local video store, when he's not busy watching German expressionists or classic thrillers. One night at the store he becomes acquainted with Sasha, who turns out to live across the street from his apartment. The next day, Sasha's mother is found dead. Giulio is convinced the murder has been inspired by the films of Alfred Hitchcock, and against his new girlfriend's advice, decides to start his own investigation.

One thing in relation to this film should be clear immediately, several other
Dario Argento fans risk being disappointed: "Do you like
Hitchcock" is a TV-movie and, therefore, not
is so outrageous and / or surprising as we expect to be Argento films! Not
prepare yourself to see another "Opera" or "sinister" in which repulsive gore
burst from the screen or with dementia-Giallo plot twists that stun
constantly! This is a decent, but generally ethically correct thriller,
where the master of contact is detected only in the details and style
aspects. This is by no means a bad movie and please do not view this as a warning signal
not to see it, but I just want to prevent people
will start making remarks as "Dario Argento continues to lose its < br> tap ", etc. .. As noted above, "Do you like Hitchcock" is the first in
a series of eight films produced by Italian television station Rai Uno
that are intended to achieve, ultimately, a tribute to Alfred "Master of Suspense"
Hitchcock. His classic titles serve as a pivot in the new elements
writing thrillers, of which only the pilot film is directed by Dario Argento
. This general idea is terrible for a tribute, I think, and
classic film fans will undoubtedly enjoy the mixture of all these
Hichcock highlighted in the modern configuration.
Argento's film largely focuses on two milestones Hitckcock, namely
"Strangers on a Train" and "Read the window." Giulio is a young
- student film that sometimes its magnificent neighbor watches

's "Strangers on a Train." It's really nice to see how it all mixes Argento
Hichcock references in a giant tribute. Apart from the two obvious
titles, there are several other, smaller references to Hitchock
work and sometimes you really need to be a specialist to discover
them all. The story is persuasive enough to keep you interested and
some tense moments really say that Argento is still - and always
- a powerful director. For example, there is a sequence in which the hero
trying desperately to flee the scene of a crime in a
scooter, but secondary influences, like the rainy weather or technical difficulties
, prevented him from reaching far. Do not, repeat NOT,
see this movie if you're looking unpleasant Gore! The few
murder scenes, however, are rather disturbing (and usually Argento!) But
that surely can not live up to most of the director's previous work. "Do you like
Hitchcock" is a thriller worth and what I personally
Dario rated higher than the last film, "The Card Player".
Make no mistake, this is a fact for-TV movie so do not expect the usual
Argento-gore and lots of stylized violence. If that's what you're looking
, look elsewhere!

tribute to Alfred Hitchcock, which works quite well within the limits of the medium

Have a nice lead in Elio Germano (but women are more
formulas) and most players are much better than what is common in a
Argento-movie. The beginning of the film is very good start when you get
a peak in several apartments in the rear window. " The script is full of references to
different Hitchcock films, but there are also
Nods toward Brian Depalma ... and Dario Argento's own! There
scenes that seem to have risen more or less intact
of his other creations as "Deep red", "Opera" and "Hell".
But this is not necessarily a negative thing because this is mainly in the tissues
plot with a lot of skill. There is only one murder (with the exception of two death scenes
), but it is quite violent and the scenario that led to
is very suspenseful. The last 10 minutes are also edge of your seat material.
Also worth mentioning is good cinema Fasano (especially
gunfire at night is very pleasant to see). And the score of Pino
Dinaggio is absolutely first class! It is certainly much better than the anonymous
put music together with Dario "Trauma" and might remind you of your work
Brian de Palma.
But some things do not work, for example the scene in which our "hero"
is broken leg. It is too leave, but was suspended in
principle. The pace flags from time to time and is generally erratic.
And although the climax is exciting, I can not shake the feeling that
could have been even better with a dash more strict. It seems that
Argento / Ferrini lost interest in some of their
intriguing tale of terror. And finally, the usual quibble when it comes to Argento
... dubbing the film is sometimes really bad at best is acceptable. And
note that saw the Italian version! Only God knows why Italians
often prefer dubbing instead of using the original sound?!
But ultimately, a very dignified departure of Mr. Argento. Certainly not
up "Suspiria", "Inferno", "Deep red" or his other masterpieces
(not even the top undervalued "Trauma" which resembles
sometimes ), But it is absolutely one of the best things he has done since
"Opera".
