Jarhead (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows "Swoff" (Gyllenhaal), a third-generation enlistee, from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, sporting a sniper's rifle and a hundred-pound ruck on his back through Middle East deserts with no cover from intolerable heat or from Iraqi soldiers, always potentially just over the next horizon. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fields in a country they don't understand against an enemy they can't see for a cause they don't fully fathom... Foxx portrays Sergeant Sykes, a Marine lifer who heads up Swofford's scout/sniper platoon, while Sarsgaard is Swoff's friend and mentor, Troy, a die-hard member of STA-their elite Marine Unit.

I was reluctant to see this film. As a veteran of Desert Shield / Storm,
I spent my first 90 days in the theater-in Arms Co. A Swofford's
Battalion. I later moved to the 1 st Bn of 7 Marines, but with
Been in the same unit for some of the same time I felt that I could offer
readers a unique perspective on the accuracy of the film.

From a purely aesthetic perspective I thought that the film was well done.
The acting is very good, and the script was well-written, witty and
specifies. The actors are well suited to their roles. My staff
preference for a good story would have been disappointed if it were not for
My personal interest in the film. In my opinion, this movie is a drama-documentary
earrings, in order to adjust their expectations
accordingly. If you are expecting a lot from the line driving and all
accompanies the dramatic tension, then I think it is disappointed

But if you think of it as an opportunity to look at a point

Are there parts of the film that I find it incredible? Yes. But

where everyone is firing their weapons into the air. I was not there,
But I can not imagine a violation of discipline on that scale. I can not say
It is impossible, but I am doubtful. But if it is true or not is not important
. In essence this is a movie about the Marines, the way they
