Julia Roberts, in his first misstep toxic from the "America's Sweethearts"
Stars as Katherine Watson, a "free-thinking" bohemian "art teacher who tries to
Wellesly College for Women ( "the most conservative college
Nation") 1953 to teach encounters and conflicts because of his teaching
Style (which apparently is not only "free thinking" and "bohemian", but
"Subversivos" too!) After trying to come to appreciate the modern woman
Art. Of course, after all the necessary plot points are overcome, there is a Final
happy when we realize that it touches all of his students' lives and
never forget it and blah, blah, blah .
Yuuuuuuuuuck. I
films mainly to encourage original thought and the fight against tradition
And being yourself, but it's hard for me to take seriously when
Presented at roughly that it is as if Katherine and a few
their students are the only real humans and all others are without heart,
Incruento, alien pod people.
Other human beings (you know, fellow "free thinking", "subversives"
"Bohemian") are played by Julia Stiles, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Maggie
Gyllenhaal (who expected only gives the memorable performance).
Sheath people are everybody else, but especially Kirsten Dunst as a student Katherine
voice that opposes the teaching dialogue like "No disrespect
Our traditions just because you subversive! "And the gorgon-like campus
President (Marian Seldes). Of course Dunst is more than one person until his sheath
cheats on her husband and she realizes Katherine was over all right, just
time for the heart as ending (whew! That was a close one!).
I am mean to beat on this harmless little puppies a movie, but
When a film is trying to be "serious" and bungles that virtually every step of the way and
so bad, it's hard not to. Each character is a stereotype,
Each situation a cliché, everything in general feels completely untrue, and
As a result the proper message that it is trying to disseminate is
would not make sense.
Too bad Julia Roberts. I had liked his film long,
But then, suddenly began to be interesting, taking
not typical roles in good films like "Ocean's Eleven," "Full Frontal" ;
"Erin Brockovich" and, above all, the very underrated "The Mexican".
Let's hope that will be made in the right direction again.
As a graduate of Wellesley College, 1952, I was anxious to see the film.
To
One time I thought that maybe I was going to be a satire. I had read

But nobody mentions satire. It is so absurd, so over the top, so

That gives us stereotypes, and so far my experience is that
Depressing.
Not mind the character Julia Roberts although it is probably
Anacrónico. No doubt the young, as well dressed for classes,
Talking back to it for the sake of sentences is filled with vitriol
Figments of the imagination of Hollywood. I remember that we do not offer courses,

Establishment, etc, and nowhere in the film was none of the girls discuss ideas

The reality, we used to stay up late to discuss ideas, and we

Plush bedrooms were more figments of the imagination of Hollywood.

I loved art history and music appreciation courses.
It changed my life. I had known anything about art before Wellesley and only Warsaw

Lastly, what was the point of making this movie today? To suggest
how far we have come since the 1950's? To ridicule what was then? After all,
There was much that was good. I mean I feel so fortunate to have been able to go to
A Place as Wellesley even if it was for the privileged. Undoubtedly
was not as conservative as the film describes, nor is it a "finishing school

Teachers were continually opening up our minds to more and more knowledge.

I was very disappointed in the Chamber of Women after the movie, I

movie!
A couple tried to tell me that was not just about Wellesley, which
represents the decade of the 50 overall. But the fact is, in general, the 50's were not
sad!
