An Army sergeant (Samual Jackson) takes six of his special troops on a training mission into the rain-soaked Colombian jungles and only two come out alive. When the rescue mission arrives, they see one soldier (Brian Van Holt) killing another and carrying a wounded comrade (Giovanni Ribisi). As the interrogation begins, the soldier refuses to talk to anyone other than another Ranger. The investigating officer (Connie Nielsen) protests, but her commanding officer (Timothy Daly) nonetheless brings in a former Ranger and current DEA agent (John Travolta) to help. The agent is currently on suspension from DEA for allegedly accepting a bribe. From this point on, the plot continues to twist and turn and offers numerous surprises that keeps the story interesting.

Basic devotes its attention to very early and keeps you guessing throughout
with twists and turns in history and its
refreshingly unexpected end.

Predictably Travolta and Jackson are both excellent, as is Connie
Neilson. The characters build well, writing is very strong and
story is quite original.

All in all "Basic" is a good thriller that is a bit complex and confusing
for the casual film fan.

Man, I can not believe that almost overlooked this because the major film critics
pan. Basic is very good and kind of mystery / suspense story
I can not see anywhere near enough. I have enjoyed every minute of this movie. I did not know
out and was surprised at the end. For me, it does not get much better
in the entertainment department of a film like Basic. John Travolta
do what John Travolta does best, playing a wise man
better than anyone, and Connie Nielsen offers a small high-performance, it is hot
to boot. This film has an amazing number of plot twists and the pacing is fast
to try to keep him. I loved it!
