I think some people are too harsh in this movie. No, not saying anything
revealing about the human condition, but that's not his intention
. It is very good escapist fare. Monroe and Russell
keep us captivated with her glamorous, songs and dance numbers, and the occasional
a strong line. The plot is superficial. While Monroe
is obviously the most associated with the film in public opinion
conscience, I personally think Russell is just as good if not better
(I'm not saying that because I am a Brunet too!) questioned many
Monroe fans ask is whether at this moment onwards in his career Monroe
Lorelei was playing or if in real life she 'was' Lorelei?
Whatever the case, I recommend this movie, if one is in the mood for glitzy spectacle
glamorous Hollywood, 7 / 10.
Anyone who ever written off as Marilyn Monroe "just" a dumb blonde
be directed to this film immediately. Yes, at first glance, Lorelei Lee is a
brainless piece of lint, given to malapropisms such as "Pardon me,
please
this is the boat to Europe, France? "But upon closer inspection, this girl
is not fictitious. Rather remarkable for the macho era, and Lorelei
Dorothy (played by the incredibly undervalued Jane Russell) do things on their own
, and when Lorelei "played dumb", is because he knows he is
men
what we hope - and she uses it to his advantage. But enough of the heavy
analyse;
above all, "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" is fun! It is clearly Fox,
instead of MGM, the school musical - MGM made "art" music ( "A
americas in Paris," "Singin 'in the rain "), while Fox made the" vulgar "
dear
(" There's No Business Like Show Business "). From the opening number ( "
Two Little Girls from Little Rock"), we know that we are in a visually opulent,
nouveau riche zircon entertainment - witness the gaudy black, red and blue
Color scheme. Lorelei and Dorothy's costumes are at the end of
50
's fashion; designer Travilla never get off as a contemporary
Dior or Balenciaga, but as a precursor of Bob Mackie. And yet, this remains a
very funny (and, essentially, very hot) movie. Few friendships screen
as credible and as adorable as Lorelei and Dorothy's - perhaps only
Lucy and Ethel's on the small screen that really overcomes. "Let's get this straight
"
Dorothy warns, "nobody talks about Lorelei except ME." Lorelei
returned the compliment: "Dorothy is the best, loyalest friend of a girl could ever have
. "Pretty things from the heart! In a nutshell, Lorelei and Dorothy
nightclub entertainers who are the head of Paris where Lorelei's romance with millionaire
Mr Esmond (Tommy Noonan) flounders because of his father
interference. On board, Dorothy Malone is a romance (Elliot Reid), which unbeknowst
girls, is a private detective hired by Esmond
to maintain an eye out for possible scandal. Meanwhile, Lorelei meets Mr Beekman, aka
"Piggy" (Charles Coburn), probably the dirtiest dirty age in the history
film. Piggy just happens to own the 2 nd largest diamond mine in South Africa
, and soon enough, Lorelei is coveting the magnificent diamond tiara
Piggy owned by the wife, Lady Beekman (Norma Varden). Several
mixups and chaos occurs, with Lorelei and Dorothy finally abandoned in Paris.
And that is where Marilyn Monroe gives his penultimate performance: the legendary
"Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" sequence. Even today, after tens of
parodies and homages, this number captive. Not since Rita Hayworth
"put the blame on Mame" in "Gilda" was no such intoxicatingly sexy
marriage between stars, singing and the person. In this issue, is Marilyn
turns playful, attractive, seductive and charming, but never hard-edged
or connivance. And there lies the appeal: even when proclaiming "I prefer a
the man who gives life and expensive jewelry! "Marilyn is never anything less
more lovable. She is not a gum snapping, man-eating golddigger; he wants
pretty things, and knows how to reach them - but not at the expense of
be nice. She can read the lists of passengers with a single focal point ( "Every man
with
'valet ... and' after your name is certainly worth "), but she still
a likable character with a motive behind his actions - which always remain
totally innocent. Special note should be done here, too, Jane Russell's
contributions to this film (not least of which is its
seen-to-be-cree alone, "Is not there anyone Here for Love, "in which she is
surrounded pumping post-beefcake). It has been very easy for
Russell or pull the film entirely in Monroe, or pushing too hard for
its own focus at the expense of warmth and camraederie screen.
Wisely,
Russell does not. She simply becomes a snappy, comics
effortless performance that has more than its own, and projects a wonderful feeling
brotherhood in her scenes with Monroe. This is a small comedy, musical jewel;
the sum is greater than its parts (the songs themselves are weak;
comedy is sometimes obvious), but there is no denying its great value entertainment.
This is a perfect example of star power (Monroe and Russell) convert a
Rhinestone in a diamond.
