On a hilly highway in the California desert are three cars and a truck. In one car are Russell Finch, his wife Emeline, and her obnoxious mother; in another car are Melville Crump and his wife Monica; in another are two pals, Dingman "Dingy" Bell and his obese friend Benjy Benjamin; and in the truck is delivery driver Leonard "Lennie" Pike. Suddenly the four vehicles are nearly struck by a wildly fleeing car that smashes through the guardrail and plummets down the embankment. The other vehicles stop and the men rush to help the injured driver, who turns out to be a wanted felon, "Smiler" Grogan, who is fatally injured and whose dying words to his would-be rescuers are an alert that a large case with hundreds of thousands of dollars is to be found buried beneath "a big W." A detective arrives at the scene and questions the men, who all explain that they could make no sense of what Grogan was saying. But after the detective and his partner leave, the men begin wondering if Grogan's dying words are true, and eventually a series of wild misadventures ensues as the four parties begin searching for the mysterious "big W," find it and the treasure - and find themselves facing potential arrest at the hands of area police captain G.C. Culpepper.

-- Well so far I have not read a good review for this movie here. I
not have much to add, except to grow, this was one of my favorite comedies
. This is totally slapstick, a lot of sequences and things
divisions or almost silly plot and less-but oh how I laughed.
I am not quite sure why I did it but I've never been able to see this movie without leaving
in Wales of laughter. Since I'm writing a review, I
as an attempt to give a specific reason why this outside wall,
completely stupid movie I appealed to both but I can not because there is no
reason. This film is ridiculous on its way, but you know, and
not taken seriously at all. It's like Seinfeld-
a film about nothing. (Except persecution, things fall, break, etc.). That's it. But
It's funny. It is senseless and it's fun and I loved it! Since,
I have not seen in quite some time, maybe I do not like
now and I can see how it would be for everybody, but I know is this is a
of the few comedies that I have become absolutely hysterical across
most of it and I'm not the only person who had that reaction.
This is coming from someone who is not particularly fond of slapstick.
There is not much more to say about it-is certainly a madman, crazy and a movie that gave me
many laughs often.
This was the first time that a comedy is the "epic" film and after
treatment increasingly pretentious in his two previous plays, Stanley Kramer
only was simple old-fashioned fun with the largest set of
comic talent that could reach their hands. What size? Consider that this is a
film in which both Jack Benny and Rochester appear, but not together (
also true for Phil Silvers and his "Sergeant Bilko" nemesis Paul Ford).
Just about all the big names in television comedy of the 50 and 60 and here is the
results, although not the largest of its kind ( "The Great Race" is a fun
movie in my opinion), still manages to deliver the laughs.

It is too bad the rest of ten minutes (the police more newsletters
intermediate) of the road show version still lacks, because the expanded version
helped me appreciate the movie much more than they did
first time outside when I saw it on television faded as a pan and scan atrocity.
This is a movie that makes extensive use of the pan.
