"Nobody expected that through glass he sees a person, they see a crime. David Gale
I am not a murderer and a rapist, four days shy of his
execution, "says Gale (Kevin Spacey) to a reporter Bitsey Bloom (Kate Winslet
) in one of his last days life. While it might be right Gale,
not one that looks at The Life of David Gale on the silver screen, go to the movies,
they see a work of art. This is not The Life of David Gale, this is one of the
more meaningful and insightful films created in years. His grip
screenplay, cinematography and brilliant performance creativity explores one of
americas's most pressing issues in a captivating way.
David Gale, top of his class at Harvard, Texas, was leading death penalty abolitionists and
professor at the University of Austin. Now on death row
by the rape and murder of his best friend, Constance Hallaway (Laura Linney
), a reporter Bitsey Bloom Gale interviews in their last three days
life. The film is produced as a series of flashbacks explore
Gale's intriguing life and the offence allegedly committed.
Gale was written by a former professor of philosophy and Vienna
for the first time screenwriter Charles Randolph. History is full of twists and remarkable
becomes constantly forcing viewers to change their thoughts that
committed the murder. The film is packed with memorable lines, both
serious and humorous. When the city-loving Bloom and its interior, Zack, firstly reach
small town of Huntsville, Bloom comments, `You know you're in the Bible belt
when there are more churches than Starbucks'. Zack adds, `More prisons
that Starbucks'. When Bloom first met Gale, prison guards
seem unnecessarily rude to Gale. The observer 'being practised
cruel and unusual'. In a flashback, Gale describes the pro-death penalty in Texas
Governor as being "in touch with his inner frat boy '.
Most of the script takes place towards the end of the film when
Bloom begins a race against time to discover what actually happened at the crime scene
. The last ten seconds expand the film in a sense
questioning the purpose of life. This theme is played brilliantly on
in previous segments of the film. During a flashback of his teaching Gale
U
of a class, lectures "The only way we can judge the merit of our own lives is
valuing the lives of others. "In our world of hollow How
Losing a guy in 10 days, bringing the House and Old School, comes this
film that is truly significant.
While the screenplay is extremely powerful, it has a significant moment
weak. On the night before the execution of Gale, Bloom
discovers some strange occurrences at the crime scene. Instead of spending
the research at night, she goes to sleep. The next morning
is a battle against the clock to determine whether he is guilty Gale, who finally realizes the truth
just minutes before the execution. The plot was allegedly
especially if more gripping Bloom has spent the night working on the case
instead of snoring. Mr Randolph: Certainly not bad for his first
screenplay, which is worth keeping away from this reviewer's death row
.
Each player was selected ideal for their respective roles (George Clooney
was originally requested for the role of Spacey; thank God that turned it down).
Spacey as the role of Gale is one of the best of his career. Much of his
offbeat, sarcastic and monotonous voice American Beauty seems to emerge when
Gale first meets Bloom and explains why he drew for her. One of
Spacey's best lines ever uttered occurs later in the film when it tries to convince
Bloom that he is innocent. He shouts, `I used to be the state leader
death penalty abolitionist and I am now in death row. Is not that strike you as
a bit strange? "Spacey
Another memorable scene occurs in a flashback to the U of A
when a seductive female studies, Berlin, calls for a greater degree. Gale
approaches to Berlin and whispers in her ear, Berlin `Well, I will give you a good
degree, a very good grade, if the fair. study '.
British actress Kate Winslet pulled out impeccably
American accent throughout the film. Winslet's tone of voice and minutes
expressions reveal a dynamic change in his personality from the moment it arrives first at
Texas when she leaves. She falls in Huntsville aware of their status and
hardened of city life. "I am a reporter, you are an inmate," explains
to Zack when they first arrive at the scene. Later, she becomes so immersed
Gale in history that almost drowns herself while trying to reenact the murder
sequence. This happens when Bloom infiltrates the crime scene and
ensures a plastic bag over his head with duct tape to determine how long a person can survive without
air.
director Allan Parker took this script and cast powerful and perfect
Gale created in a manner strikingly different. Parker worked with both
director of photography Michael Seresin and Editor Gerry Hambling
in 1999 to create the
depressing, slow tale of old Ireland in Angela's Ashes. Taking into account
Gale was done with the same key crew members, you might think that would
strong correlations between the two productions, but
this was not the case. Gale explores the issues today at a rapid pace,
suspenseful thriller.
Parker uses a new and different technique when the film goes
between today and flashbacks. The camera seems to be spinning 360 degrees
as the film cuts between today, flashback graphics and a variety of
buzz words (such as death ',' truth ',' power ',' Love ' ", etc.) until the
flashback out stages of other scenes.
Parker teachers technique intercutting to convey meaning. In the days
Gale of the execution, Parker quickly among cuts cook preparing jail
his last meal, reporters discuss the implementation, Bloom trying to tell the
world of its findings and, finally, Gale walking around the room to room
death. These visuals, along with the frantic track, `Media Frenzy ',
portray the feeling of extreme tension. Similarly, in a flashback, shot Gale
having sex with a student at a party are rapidly intercut with the rapid pace
dance of the other partygoers. Parker passed intelligently
emphasis
juxtaposing through striking images after a scene. After Gale pronounced
for
Bloom, `I'm running out of time ', the film cuts to a steak sizzling on a barbecue near
. Parker is the comparison of Gale and hope
desperate situation to fry meat dead.
Life of David Gale is a film truly remarkable, obligarĂ¡
tears from their eyes and their cause to shake the knees over the entire
130 minutes. This absolutely fascinating film will leave you thinking for a long time
, on the purpose of the death penalty and
about the meaning of human life. Please note: The film is so exciting just May
change its position on the death penalty.
Kevin Spacey deserves another Oscar nomination for this movie, while
supporting cast is not as creative except maybe Laura Linney.
Alan Parker is back with impressive material - and causing sophisticated.
This film makes me think of world we live in and life in general.
I'm not an expert on capital punishment, but acting in
Spacey is excellent and deeply moving. This is not usual stupid Hollywood movie and popcorn
thank you for that. My personal rating is 10 out of 10.
