Ivan Reitman is something of a savior. The most tired plots
(Ghostbusters, evolution) come to life in his skilled hands. Even her occasional flop
(Six Days, Seven Nights) show signs of life and humor that make
worth seeing. So I was disappointed that Reitman
could not take a fairly original plot (man dumps superhero, is super superhero
revenge fuel), and how something pleasant.
"girlfriend" is an exercise in futility. The trick of a plot
horse is long in the tooth after the first 20 minutes. The movie can not decide whether to be
romantic comedy or drama superhero. The result is a film
the flip-flops between the two, with neither aspect is very well done.
Uma Thurman is tops, as usual, Luke Wilson and pulled away from its role too, although his slacker
antics quickly grow tired. What is even more maddening is that
, in certain scenes (like when a very Uma
flame lit a header through a wall), a witty sense, raucous Reitman
opus virtually screaming out. But seconds later, the magic is lost
, ido as fast as the superheroine whose films
disappointed in almost every way.
