(mystery, thriller)
In 1950-something New York, an adventuresome free-lance photographer finds himself confined to a wheelchair in his tiny apartment while a broken leg mends. With only the occasional distraction of a visiting nurse and his frustrated love interest, a beautiful fashion consultant, his attention is naturally drawn to the courtyard outside his "rear window" and the occupants of the apartment buildings which surround it. Soon he is consumed by the private dramas of his neighbors lives which play themselves out before his eyes. There is "Miss Lonelyhearts," so desperate for her imaginary lover that she sits him a plate at the dinner table and feigns their ensuing chat. There is the frustrated composer banging on his piano, the sunbathing sculptress, the shapely dancer, the newlyweds who are concealed from their neighbors by a window shade, and a bungling middle-aged couple with a little yapping dog who sleep on the fire escape to avoid the sweltering heat of their apartment. ...And then there is the mysterious salesman whose nagging, invalid wife's sudden absence from the scene ominously coincides with middle-of-the-night forays into the dark, sleeping city with his sample case. Where did she go? What's in the trunk that the salesman ships away? What's he been doing with the knives and the saw that he cleans at the kitchen sink?

This is the quintessence of Hitchcock simple, easy to understand, addictively
interesting, with big stars (Grace Kelly and James Stewart),
family
bit players (Thelma Ritter in one of his best roles as the loquacious Stewart
nurse), and a kind of satire almost imperceptible in the human animal.
In this case, Hitchcock has glorious fun showing a wide range of human behavior
through the device to see through a Greenwich Village
Rear Window before the age of air conditioners when everyone had to
leave their windows open (and some even slept on the fire escape I've done)
to cope with the terrible heat and humidity
eastern seaboard during a heat wave.
James Stewart stars as LB Jeffries, a photographer who has adventurerous
a broken leg and is confined to his apartment into a mold at that time heals.
Bored beyond belief, it becomes a voyeur of its neighbours. Meanwhile there is
his girlfriend, none other than Grace Kelly playing a "too perfect"
several intention to win her heart and soul. Trouble is Jeff concerns
not work, which are essentially incompatible, one of several
, which always goes first class, a roughing, man of the world
comfortable with the second class. Naturally, the audience (!)
Believes it is incredible that he was not madly in love with her.
Raymond Burr (Perry Mason TV throughout) in the grey hair and has a mottled
interesting role as Lars Thorwald, seen almost entirely remotely
through the yard doing things very suspicious suitcases with knives and
and mysterious comings and goings in the middle of the night. Bored
voyeurs
wonder what is happening. There is some light romantic play
between Stewart and Kelly, but is decidedly secondary to the voyeuristic adventures
seen through the Rear Window: the saga of Miss Lonelyhearts, the burning of
newlyweds, anguish of Music, exhibitionism
beauty of dance, pampered dogs in a basket, and Thorwald and void and then
missing wife. Hitchcock in the americas midcentury. Each one of the few
stories within the story has a plot and a resolution: Miss Lonelyhearts
found their man. The singer is someone who appreciates their work.
Dancing beauty of man (watching from a distance a little like Woody Allen in
army uniform) returns. The groom seeks a break from his exhaustive
conjugal duties, etc. Hitchcock sense of satire has a soft touch,
why, I think, is so beloved. In the final scene Grace Kelly,
the search for her husband slept, put in the book you are reading adventures (by his
benefit) and includes Harper's Bazaar to check fashion . One gets the sense
of future marital happiness and, above all, the conjugal reality.
There is some tension and some mystery, but nothing too strenuous for
little old ladies from Pasadena, and nothing to offend no one and nothing too graphic
. You can see this with children and their unmarried aunt and all of them
seems interesting. See for Thelma Ritter, the character actress sadonic
many movies, especially this
and All About Eve (1950).
Not only Rear Window (RW) have Alfred Hitchcock's trademark ingenuity,
suspense, and romance (with a touch of friction) in spades, but
is one of its most well-prepared, cleverly stages movies, in fact,
even though RW se basa on a Cornell Woolrich story, I can not imagine this
story that said the most effective way in any medium other than cinema.
However, the technical achievements (more entertainingly
explains on the DVD of the documentary) would be nothing without the participation
characters. James Stewart's neighbors are interesting enough to justify
their own movies, and besides providing ironically
microcosm of New York life (the only thing on the date is the lack of air conditioning
) reflecting all possible outcomes for something
between stormy romance set in motion shutterbug Stewart and Grace Kelly
bright as its high-end fashion Maven inamorata. As Brent Spiner
said, while hosting a show on TNT RW, the real perversion of
Stewart movie is the reluctance to commit to the irresistible Kelly! In fact
, one of the things I like about the film is the way that shows
these two very different people to learn gradually
commitment and work together. The spicy final shot shows a woman can have a happy
relationship with a man without submerging his own personality -
refreshing for the years 1950! Great supporting cast, too, including
Wendell Corey, Raymond Burr in one of his last bad guy's functions before
PERRY MASON, and the scene of theft Thelma Ritter. Indeed, the restored
special edition DVD RW was developed just in time to include
Georgine Darcy ( "Miss Torso"), then one of the last surviving cast members
. Darcy died earlier this year, she will be missed.
