Download Movie WindtalkersIn the close quarters and brutal fighting of the World War II Pacific Theater, the U.S. Intelligence services desperately seek a fool-proof encryption code, immune to the code breakers of the Japanese. The answer is soon discovered in the ancient language of the Navajo. Enlisted into the Marine Corps are several "Windtalkers" who are deployed to frontline areas in the Pacific, to use their language as an impossible-to-crack secret code. A drawback, however, is that the U.S. military soon puts forth a directive that the Windtalkers must never be captured alive by the enemy, so additional Marines are assigned to make certian that this directive is carried out to the letter.

"Windtalkers" is a movie that is definitely looking forward to the

time I saw the teaser on television. I've been a big fan of John Woo
for several years,
well as a fan of Nic Cage since I saw "Leaving Las Vegas".
That said, please do not confuse these two things with the fact that I have enjoyed
this movie at all.

Since the opening of the film until the credits, I was totally lost in

why I really care about the story is told.
My grandfather fought and was wounded on Saipan, but this movie does not even begin to convey the
history of these battles in the Pacific during the campaign. Of course, we see the
Cage in his humble nature of times in the opening sequences of the film,
but for some reason ... look and feel like just that: a movie.

There is no real heroism, apart from one or two events that are flat-out
depressing, and there is no successful attempt to portray the film
which was passed as very
the real nightmare that was.

Woo, IMHO, has always been on the transfer of sentiment across any
half. Whether bloodshed, tragedy, heroism, or pure irony,
has always succeeded in a certain level. But in this movie and its technical

only way it feels static.

Now, those who act. As expected, Nicolas Cage makes his usual

piece of soft voice and understated emotion, which more or less works for the film
entirety. It's the rest of the cast that is lacking in its
portraits, and therefore substantially reduces the effect of what is
trying to say through the film. Christian Slater does make a
excellent job with what little talent he has to act drama, and Peter Stormare
fits the piece. Unfortunately, that's all I can say the
acting in this movie. Also disappointing is the fact that good acting

in this movie is not what it focuses on, rather matter
Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach) appears to be center stage next to Mr Cage, and hence, its

weaknesses shine through in every scene. Not only seem disingenuous
Beach, also seems completely lost, and his character

transformation towards the end of the film seems foolish, to say the least.

The saving grace for this movie is the little
and effective battle scenes. However, "Windtalkers" is incoherent and outside the mark.

If you're looking for a more interesting take on the war, before leaving Woo "a bullet in the

Head" - is not a war epic "Windtalkers" tries to be, but most
undoubtedly expresses the intention of the message.
I just watched the Director's Cut on DVD after seeing the
theatrical cut some time ago.

Plot summary: In World War II, a code based on language navajo
was used to secure communication between U.S. troops in the Asia Pacific, the Japanese
without listening. We speak according to two navajo code and its U.S.
Marina "bodyguards" because going to fight in a Japanese island.

Much has been written about this somewhat flawed film John Woo.
After having seen both versions, my main disappointment is that the two still speak
code characters seem fund. A film with a minor
budget without major Hollywood stars put in the foreground is
probably have been more satisfying. Maybe this movie should have been done by another director
also, I do not know. Suffice

good "in general" war against films have been made. The code lecturer
part of the story should have been much more critical as was done here.

I am a fan of Woo Hong Kong and Hollywood. The Director's Cut of
Windtalkers not turn on a mediocre film by Woo in a masterpiece, but
is undoubtedly an improvement.

Main advantages of the DC characters are more developed. You get more
background on all the main characters, including the two code navajo
speak. I felt more involved. As a result, the code lecturer
part of the story is served better, but still not enough for my liking. The DC also has more scenes uncut
battlefield. Woo really shows his talent here, with crude
still beautifully shot act of war. You get the sense that you
are at the heart of the action.

I was particularly interested if a scene was put back in U.S.
where a soldier takes a gold tooth from a corpse Japanese. This scene is
described in several documentaries about censorship by the U.S. Army.
Not totally surprising, this scene was also absent from DC.

If you're a fan or Woo and appreciated the theatrical cut, perhaps
It would be worthwhile to review the Director's Cut.

My ratings: 6 / 10 for the original court. 8 / 10 for the Director's Cut.
