A successful cocaine dealer, who has earned a respected place among England's Mafia elite, plans an early retirement from the business. However, big boss Jimmy Price hands down a tough assignment: find Charlotte Ryder, the missing rich princess daughter of Jimmy's old pal Edward, a powerful construction business player and gossip papers socialite. Complicating matters are two million pounds' worth of Grade A ecstasy, a brutal neo-Nazi sect and a whole series of double crossings. The title "LAYER CAKE" refers to the layers or levels anyone in business goes through in rising to the top. What is revealed is a modern underworld where the rules have changed. There are no 'codes', or 'families' and respect lasts as long as a line. Not knowing who he can trust, he has to use all his 'savvy', 'telling' and skills which make him one of the best, to escape his own. The ultimate last job, a love interest called Tammy, and an international drug ring threaten to draw him back into the 'cake mix'. But, time is running out and the penalty will endure a lifetime..

After being cast as Bond, Daniel Craig catalog is now much sought after
. Although Craig came to most of the attention of the United Kingdom with a

The plot is deceivingly simple and that was mistakenly placed in the
gangster-want-to-retire peacefully cinema basic seen frequently in
Al Pacino movies. This is an achievement far greater than the
bold visual style, excellent script and excellent performances fazer easy comparisons to this film very difficult. If something is
Schrader closer to the 'American GigaLan' where morally questionable
hero is mired in a situation happens around them. The
predominantly male cast is impeccable with everyone in Dexter Fletcher Michael Gambon
magnificent setting tumble to the characters justice. Much more
human caricature stereotypes that we have come to expect after so many
Brit gangster flicks. Craig has never looked better for
taking in Hollywood.

Hats Off then Matthew Vaugn Britain to film, because you can see. Grimy
in all places but hardly surprising in places like our stateside
cousins. We have grown too accustomed to seeing the pouring rain and trodden
the cliches that have represented this country in celluloid. It is not
foppish. Not Bend like Beckham. Therefore, there really is no excuse left
not to see it (apart from the terrible trailer). Layer Cake
deserves a wide audience and there is more than enough of everything for everyone to enjoy
. Sometimes hilarious, surprising and incredibly sincere
concise entire film is a pure joy and clarity to people who love film
. It makes you wonder why they can not all be as elegant as this.
I was expecting good things and was not disappointed. It has been a while since I saw
a good film by British gangsters. Layer Cake filled the vacuum
very well. He was good, the script was tight and the film was well
cast. People who I had not seen before were well used in their characters. The film begins
nice and easy, but progress since it gets quite
deep and twisted.

I was more surprised by Colm Meaney, I've known only by him
Startrek.

But it was excellent cast and has a rather menacing air about him.

LC has a few laughs for those with a more twisted sense of humor,
is not obvious, either comedy and film never plays for fun. Very different from
Lock Stock and snatch. The director has done well to leave
of Guy Ritchie and make a serious film.
