Maverick is recreated from the character James Garner created in the 1950s TV program. Maverick is a gambler who would rather con someone than fight them. He needs an additional three thousand dollars in order to enter a Winner Take All poker game that begins in a few days. He tries to win some, tries to collect a few debts, and recover a little loot for the reward, all with a light hearted air. He joins forces with a woman gambler with a marvelous, though fake, southern accent as the two both try and enter the game.

This is one of those rare films that can be viewed over and over again without
tired of it. Forget what some people have said about Jodie Foster,
she is absolutely perfect as the seemingly-silly-but-smarter-than-be-seen
blonde, and the chemistry between her and Mel Gibson is magnificent. Also perfect
James Garner are like Marshal, Graham Greene as the beleaguered leader native
and Alfred Molina (the English that is as good as an Iranian in
Not Without My daughter and a Cuban Family Perez) as the "Spanish". The
writing is simply brilliant, one of William Goldman better - as someone
might describe as "virtually plotless" just staggers the imagination. The
direction and cinematography are gorgeous.
A special treatment is the Lethal Weapon reprise with Danny Glover.
After making entertaining films such as "Lethal Weapon" movies,
"The Goonies" and "Scrooge", Richard Donner man behind all persons
films, brings us "Maverick" an excellent and entertaining "modern" Western
with a history fun and entertaining characters played by actors-veterans
that seems to have a lot of fun working on this movie.

Best of "Maverick" is the 'fun' feeling that this movie has
. You could say that the actors worked on this film with a lot of pleasure and fun
. Mel Gibson is a wonderful and fun that man as Bert
uhmm I mean Bret Maverick. The cast is full of many other big names such as
: Jodie Foster, James Garner, Graham Greene, Alfred Molina, James Coburn
, Dan Hedaya, Margot Kidder and Danny Glover in an amusing cameo
.

The story is really strong and full of twists and a lot of fun
comical situations. Yes, "Maverick" is a real fun "do not worry 'film.
Truly one of the most underrated films.
