Dennis Clegg is in his thirties and lives in a halfway house for the mentally ill in London. Dennis, nicknamed "Spider" by his mother has been institutionalized with acute schizophrenia for some 20 years. He has never truly recovered, however, and as the story progresses we vicariously experience his increasingly fragile grip on reality.

We see Spider (Ralph Fiennes) at present, trying to live in
a pension that has mercy on those who should be legally
in psychiatric institutions, and in parallel action, see what revive its
Childhood, are doomed to see the events
play again and again, as an observer as he felt helpless when originally
happened.

This film is a mystery in the character and history of Ralph Fiennes' character
. A bit of his film, which deals with the mind of a disturbed
little man, and a patient film. Its also a film very mature
Cronenberg, where he finished with the shock tactics of the past,
and the results are delicious. But if you do not like films patient
(and you might see it as a cinema slow - expect no major action,
expect to see a fascinating character - and perhaps discover why it is so
Troubled), see any of Cronenberg's previous efforts instead.

Its not very big or important film - not one of the most essential films
2002, but if you've seen the most important decisions, and
are looking for something different, Spider can be an interesting atmospheric
experience for you.

8 / 10. Maybe I was alone in the perfect environment for it, but I loved the Spider.
I thought it was a beautiful and atmospheric character study.
Spider is a true uniqueness, brought vividly to life by Ralph Fiennes.
This film kept me fully engaged during each second. The
acting was not less than you would expect from such a talented cast
- brilliant performances by all. Ralph Fiennes is only
superb. Gabriel Byrne in probably the most difficult of his role
Career to date maintains the `secret 'till the end. John Neville and Lynn Redgrave
, provide support functions with an attack that never
UpStage key players. Bradley Hall as the Spider Boy
gave a fine performance as only children can actors. But it was chalk and cheese
game characters Miranda Richardson
I stole the show and clearly shows the depth of his talent term.

The screenplay, adapted by the author of the book is powerful,
without going over the top and is very real. Even throwing lines
supporting actors had sense and has helped to convey the power and momentum of this
masterpiece ".. CRiSPS seven packages and a
Embassy package '. Many times I proferido
similar words in a London Pub.

The locations were so real you can smell and taste -
I grew up there and in the same period as the Boy
Spider - each and every high precision and detail
my childhood memories that run backward.

The story is real - events like the key event in this movie, really

did happen and still do.

For international readers, England in the late 70 onwards
adopted a 'Care in the Community "program and every city and town has big houses
Such was portrayed in this movie,
where inmates recently released from psychiatric institutions are ordinarily
just dumped to fend for themselves.

This film is nothing less than a masterpiece - the real pity is that
not appeal to a broad international audience.
