In the early years of their marriage Sylvia lacks inspiration and increasingly senses Ted's infidelity. The unspoken question is whether Ted's extra-marital affairs are the result of Sylvia's own insecurities or whether Sylvia's deepening depression is exacerbated by her husbands philandering. When I rented this movie, I thought it would be on the totality of Sylvia
life, or at least from his days at Smith College.
I did not realize that her marriage to Ted Hughes would
throughout history. I think this movie has been better had they shown more
on Plath's life before Ted Hughes. For people who really do not know much about
Plath and her poetry, understanding of his life before
Hughes has made the film much more substantial. The public has to realize that
Plath led a very, very difficult mental life even before she met Hughes
, and his ideas for his poetry and "The Bell Jar" most < br> originated from her bachelorette days. She never regained his
depression as a young woman and branched out still married
Hughes. Without understanding Plath difficult from the outset of the hearing
understanding at all Plath.

I feel like the movie only told half the story. Plath was the mind
beautiful, bright and colorful. It was not just about jealousy,
depression and paranoia. Putting their works on the back burner
actually took most of this movie. I wanted to see more of the story
Plath and that gives us an insight into his mind, how its unabridged
magazines. However, I liked the dialogue for this movie, the lines
poetic and beautiful.

Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for a better film Sylvia Plath.
I recommend to people to read "The Bell Jar" and "Ariel" sooner or later
see this movie though.
I am quite familiar with the history of Plath, and I'm also a big fan of his work,
I think that helped my hesitation in seeing the film.
I did not have high hopes for this movie at all, and honestly, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised
.

My main criticism:

I find it difficult to get past the whole "Oooh see it as Gwyneth Paltrow
Sylvia Plath." Someone who is not famous worldwide
would have been more credible.

whole premise of the film revolves around the relationship of deep passion
Plath and Hughes, but I was never really convinced. The relationship was found
fairly two-dimensional, and even a pretty face on the part of
Paltrow / Plath. Instead of being portrayed as an emotionally fragile woman
brought to the brink of Hughes constant philandering and ultimately
treason, Plath seemed really come across as deeply insecure and
neurotic, constantly suffering from extreme PMT , And increasingly overreacting
Hughes saw even talking to another woman, instead of having a real
reason to suspect his infidelity.

There were a couple of key dramatic moments (like after they have done
love for the first time, and when they're in the boat together)
felt very hammy, so interrupted The momentum of the piece.

The result is simply horrible. Totally totally overwrought, over the top, too high and too
it. In addition, as Paltrow / Plath really begins to lose his mind
there is an almost constant sound of wind howling in Backgroud. Again,
OTT. Less definitely would have been more.

However

Ok, I complained to top Paltrow, but she did a great job. She
really is a very talented actress, and it is a shame the whole thing
celebrity gets in the way. She was particularly well in the final stages of
the film, and the sad decline into loneliness and depression irreversible
was very well judged.

Similarly, Daniel Craig was very enigmatic, although I wonder if a
partiality of the relationship as mentioned above may have come from him.

In general the film is very sympathetic, and showed how difficult it must have been
Hughes to live with Plath. Do not justify its behavior, but rather
tries to show an understanding. It also evokes a feeling of a time when
poets were considered important.

This film stayed with me for a few days after seeing, and I recommend it
. It is a somewhat uneven pace and direction, but I think
Christine Jeffs is a director with talent, but showed his inexperience.
But, above all, my renewed interest in both Plath and Hughes
.
