Norman Spencer, a university research scientist, is growing more and more concerned about his wife, Claire, a retired concert cellist who a year ago was involved in a serious auto accident, and who has just sent off her daughter Caitlin (Norman's stepdaughter) to college. Now, Claire reports hearing voices and witnessing eerie occurrences in and around their lakeside Vermont home, including seeing the face of a young woman reflected in water. An increasingly frightened Claire thinks the phenomena have something to do with the couple living next door, especially since the wife has disappeared without apparent explanation. At her husband's urging, Claire starts to see a therapist; she tells him she thinks the house is being haunted by a ghost. His advice? Try to make contact. Enlisting the help of her best friend, Jody, and a ouija board, Claire seeks to find out the truth of What Lies Beneath.

I went to the theater with a friend to see this movie. Both
enjoyed everything. I am a fan of Harrison Ford, and launch

It was exciting bad ..... I love to see players represent a range of

I think that the plot was realistic, which is what makes it so frightening to us. We have all heard

What Lies Beneath feels too dramatic to be effective, it is too
Previsibles for fear of a thriller and it is not enough to be a horror movie

Strangers events, creepy and mysterious whispers nuisance neighbours
Claire Spencer, in his new home. The wife of genetics researcher Norman Spencer
Claire deals with the daughter of departure to college in the midst of these odd
Happenings. Photos and break the doors open by themselves, Norman concerns
Claire discovers the truth and the bathroom is an effective climax before

The scenario rehashes many thrillers, based on The Sixth Sense, The
'Burbs, Cape Fear, several Hitchcock films, all of which are far superior

Zemeckis' film. There is nothing here that we have not seen before,
Murders in the bathroom at a séance on a wet afternoon. The weather
scenes in the last half-hour show unbearably tense despite
the outcome is inevitable.

Zemeckis' direction is mostly as lazy and without inspiration, as
Script. His pace is careful - a couple of shocks work - but their interest is
elsewhere. He worked on What Lies Beneath while Tom Hanks lost weight
for Cast Away. He apparently wanted to imitate Hitchcock and works with
Elements of the rear window, Vertigo, and Psycho Notorious but its conventional
Address amounted to a tedious film, in which only the proceedings to continue
A
Viewing.

Michelle Pfeiffer rises above the cliches script to make credible Claire
And sympathetic. Harrison Ford, performance is calm and measured,
Despite lacking the threat or the intensity of, say, Claude Rains in Notorious.
The rest of the cast acquit adequately to its own stock characters
Overall this movie boring and unrewarding. Potential viewers are
Best rent the old Hitchcock movies.
