In a modern-day Southern California neighborhood and high school, student Brendan Frye's piercing intelligence spares no one. He's not afraid to back up his words with actions, and knows all the angles; yet he prefers to stay an outsider, and does - until the day that his ex-girlfriend, Emily, reaches out to him unexpectedly and then vanishes. His feelings for her still run deep; so much so, that he becomes consumed with finding his troubled inamorata. To find her, he enlists the aid of his only true peer, the Brain, while keeping the assistant vice principal only occasionally informed of what quickly becomes a dangerous investigation. Brendan's single-minded unearthing of students' secrets thrusts him headlong into the colliding social orbits of rich-girl sophisticate Laura, intimidating Tugger, substance-abusing Dode, seductive Kara, jock Brad and - most ominously - non-student the Pin. Only by gaining acceptance into the Pin's closely guarded inner circle of crime and punishment that Brendan will be able to uncover hard truths about himself, Emily and the suspects that he is getting closer to.

I've seen this movie in a preview of passing the other night not knowing what to expect
. To say the least I was pleasantly surprised. Film Noir
be one of my favorite film genre, "Brick" follows the same story
structure, odd-ball characters, until very intelligent and
rapid pace of a hard boiled dialogue 30s/40s detective thriller. The rotation
lifts that over the parody and even a simple tribute is the presentation of these elements
with high school kids in Southern California. The
direction of Rian Johnson is very skilled and confidence in
tell the story, giving the audience smoothly and rapidly along with editing
biased and distorted camera angles. The succeeds maintain order along
the film, only a couple of pieces leaving drag (with the Drama Queen
scenes are among the weakest). The actors are great,
most memorable is the "villains" and tugged Pen. Instead of just being ill
atypical, his portraits give deep sympathy and
at the same time a degree of likability. Kudos also goes to the actor who played
Brain, Frye's partner, which is almost impeccable in his
something small role. John own axis, Richard Roundtree,
appears as the Senior Vice President, but it is clear that there were only
budget to hire him for a day. I must say this is not a classic film by any means;
I just decided to give it a high rating because it attempts
something different and succeeds quite successful. I was tired of the mundane
films that are released each year, and for once
this is something that is completely different, the use of
archetypal characters in the establishment and the delivery was not expected. It is a low-budget film
, but it is obvious to me that this filmmaker who listens
again. Keep an eye.
'Brick' is a film noir murder mystery with contemporary
high school students who speak and behave like 1940's-style gangsters.

I hurriedly bought a ticket to 'Brick' at the Sundance Film Festival,
know anything about it but what was written in the Sundance catalog.
I hardly go to the 9:15 am screening, but I am happy for what I did.
'Brick' was by far the best of the eight films he had seen until then.
is one of those rare films that keeps me grinning throughout,
happy every step of the grim plot.

The slang is thick but contextual. Watch closely for small
camera tricks as a clock that reads 5:45 until it comes into focus and
suddenly says 8:30.
