Berlin, July, 1945. Journalist Jake Geismer arrives to cover the Potsdam conference, issued a captain's uniform for easier passage. He also wants to find Lena, an old flame who's now a prostitute desperate to get out of Berlin. He discovers that the driver he's assigned, a cheerful down-home sadist named Corporal Tully, is Lena's keeper. When the body of a murdered man washes up in Potsdam (within the Russian sector), Jake may be the only person who wants to solve the crime: U.S. personnel are busy finding Nazis to bring to trial, the Russians and the Americans are looking for German rocket scientists, and Lena has her own secrets.

I thought The Good German was an excellent, exciting, film, a
unsentimental view of what it costs to survive the war, for nations and individuals
. The cast is excellent: George Clooney is the solid
americas we know from old movies: not glamorous, not necessarily
heroic, but good, Tobey Maguire returns the child soldier
cliché upside down. Cate Blanchett is delicate and beautiful, but colder than ice.

Reporter Clooney arrives in Berlin, like the war ends at work, and to find
former lover Blanchett. Covering the Potsdam Conference,
discovers a murder, and fierce battles after the war between Russia and the U.S.
Germany to win scientists. The film is full of people
willing to betray any inclination to good causes, ranging
of the largest military force to a better life outside the war-torn
Germany. What is the price of a reporter Clooney, and is worth
?

I do not see how any thinking person can not find resonance in today
holders!
Steven Soderberg is a hit-or-miss director. Any of his films are
loved and acclaimed by most, or who are infamous and hated. After reading
exams, and after hearing the rumor negative, I was expecting a
miss. Boy, I have been pleasantly surprised.

The film was mesmerizing. Say what you about it, you have to
Soderbergh commend his cinematography skills. White and Black has not
expected this good since "The man who was not there." It is so rich, so many textures
. I could not take my eyes off the screen. Definitely
some of the best looking film I've seen this year.

also score big. It evokes just the right noir-ish atmosphere.
The edition is crisp and clever. All technical elements of this film
are impeccable.

I have heard people complain about the history and act.
I thought the acting was brilliant. Clooney seems that only left 50 years. The
reminds me of Cary Grant. Cate Blanchett is perfect as the femme fatal
. I can not think of better casting choice for a former school
black film from these two.

I also thought that history was the participation, although it is sometimes confusing
. I loved how the information was dispersed, and the fact that the film
change the perspective, and at different points
is narrated by different characters. Some of the revelations of the plot
were really sophisticated.

Making this movie the way it was done using the techniques of the old school,
lighting, cameras, etc. is a gutsy move. I applaud Soderbergh
for experimentation. And I thin is a success - in fact
feels like a 50 cinema classic black. I would not say
Soderbergh is the best film, but it is certainly one of its most unique, and a
return to form after a string of failures. I recommend highly.
