Texan Charles Farmer left the Air Force as a young man to save the family ranch when his dad died. Like most American ranchers, he owes his bank. Unlike most, he's an astrophysicist with a rocket in his barn - one he's built and wants to take into space. It's his dream. The FBI puts him under surveillance when he tries to buy rocket fuel; the FAA stalls him when he files a flight plan - it's post-9/11, after all. His wife is angry when she finds out their bank is initiating foreclosure. Charlie fears failure and decides, precipitously, to launch. Are twenty-first century American dreams just a sign of insanity? Are those who believe in dreamers only fools?

Clearly a lot of critics do not know what to do with this movie.
Is best described as mostly a fantasy with elements naturalists. The
emotions are real, they are strong, and the film is always ashore
Earth. But you are never quite sure where to go. It
veer into farce, melodrama, then social commentary, and vice versa. This
seems to be taking place in today, still not completely: the
sensibilities are 60 years, the business-that can-do-it spirit
of 80 years, and despair of the 00s. It is strange, and is
dreamy, and sometimes it seems that just makes sense, but all
works. The public has captivated me to be
and almost all of them stayed until the end of the credits - a good sign indeed.

I can imagine what the high-concept presentation must have been like:
"It's just the typical save the family farm-drama, just a dad. .
. "

"Do not tell me. A space alien, "yawns the study of the head.

"Well, very close, but not entirely. He is a former astronaut who can be a nut
case, we're never quite sure. "

The study of the head is a bit more interested. "And it; sa planning
blow up the world? "

" No, although many people think he is. "

The head of the study thinks. "I think I like. Throw in some
cute children and we have a movie. "

'm being cynical, of course, and this is not a cynical movie.
There is not a false note that, in fact, the music is perfect,
cinematography is top quality, the casting is excellent (see for Bruce Dern
looking very similar to Doc Brown in Back to the Future films
). While the inspiration follow his dream
films usually do not work for me, this is done, this is incredibly charming
ridiculous that only the stiffest of film critics who could resist (and unfortunately, according
for well-known movie review site, as I write this just under 40%
do not get it right.) If this film in no more than 10 lists of best year-end, will be a
omprobar one year.

I do not know if the film is going to do well. In early box office
looks weak, but by word of mouth can be helpful. What you see in a theater now is whether
all undecided. This will be remembered.

One final note: something like this could happen in a story
generation or two, assuming that humanity does not destroy itself. That
spaceship-in-the-story barn will make a great movie when it does. This
history makes a great movie.
When I first heard there was a film in which my friend Billy Bob
builds a rocket in his barn, I thought for sure it must be a comedy or some sort of parody or
slapstick. Then I saw the trailer, which portrays the
film as serious drama. In this context, I must say,
I had my doubts when I went to an advanced screening in Salt Lake City last night
. I need not have worried. The film was, in fact, serious (
with some big laughs on the side), yet still worked.

It is true that the monitoring of your dreams - no-matter-what genre has been around
since the dawn of time, but farmers Astronaut remarkable achievement
however. The timeless truths are all the more poignant
set against the backdrop of that dream impossible. Problems farmer Charlie
faces in many respects similar to problems we all face. Topics
love, sacrifice, faith and make this movie easy to relate to. It is a metaphor for
be true to yourself and following your dreams, not just another sappy
you-can-do-anything-to-set-your-mind-a knockoff.
I recommend it to anyone who has ever wanted anything in life that
seemed out of reach or in others scoffed.
