Rannulph Junnah is the best golfer in Savannah. He's living well and has a girl, Adele Invergordon, who's the daughter of a wealthy landowner. The First World War starts, though, and Junnah goes to Europe to fight. The only survivor of a dangerous mission, Junnah doesn't return to Savannah for 15 years. In 1930, he returns, and Adele's father has already committed suicide during the Depression. Pressured by tax collectors to sell the golf course her father built to pay off debts, Adele, now older, vows to bring to Savannah the greatest match ever played on the greatest golf course, her late father's. She's able to round up the 2 greatest golfers of their time, Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen to play for $10,000. The townspeople insist on having "one of their own" compete also, and Rannulph Junnah is rounded up. Junnah now hangs out with bums and is an alcoholic, as he has lost his authentic swing from 15 years ago. At first he turns down the offer. He gets his old clubs and balls and starts practicing. He has lost his ability. Suddenly, Bagger Vance shows up. He offers to be Junnahs's caddy and help him regain his "authentic swing". He does, and Junnah agrees to play in the big match.

The thing that must be taken into account when seeing The Legend of Bagger Vance
sports movies is that, by its very definition, tend to coincide with
the atmosphere of the sport they represent. The football or ice hockey movies
for example, tend to be strong, grandiose and striking, like the games
. Basketball meanwhile films often rely on street / hip hop and
connections are so strong, but with a little more rough edge
with them, provided you forget completely about the atrocious Space
Jam. Bagger Vance on the other hand totally revolves around golf and
accordingly, is much quieter, slower and gentle pace of their cousins Brash
genre, but it nevertheless has a charm and subtlety that < br> is very beloved.

Told entirely in flashback, the film deals with the story of Matt Damon's
depressed World War One veteran Rannulph Junnuh take part in a major golf tournament
advertising against two place (real life)
professionals - Walter Hagen and Bobby Jones. At first things did not look good
, Junnuh has not played this game since returning to put the
trenches and is a slovenly drunk and wash despite having the support of the townsfolk
, nobody really expected him to win. And then he
receives a new caddy in the form of Bagger Vance (Will Smith).

At this point I imagine that alarm bells are ringing in your head. Will Smith should mean
wise-cracking, a line and the word 'evil',
stretched so that it consists of two syllables right? Well you
relieved to know that Bagger is a pleasant change of direction for
the normal stereotype of Smith. Relaxing in their heels and their work
acting muscles instead of his action hero, Smith is the undeniable
soul of the film. His eminently likable charm is still there, but he
basa is more at home spun wisdom and gentle prodding to help
Damon back in his game, instead of calling him a honkey and effecting a cocky
swagger. Playing out against him, Matt Damon is adequately
insecure and vulnerable, but is overshadowed a bit and with the exception of Junnuh
two rivals, the rest of the cast could also be superfluous.
Fortunately, Junnuh redemption and Vance easy go
friendship is enough to carry the film and history, while corny,
is as charming as the title character.

Moreover, the director Robert Redford once again shows his knack
beautiful cinematography. Like most of the film takes place in golf courses
you never too far from magnificent landscapes and
contrast between the green vegetation vibrant and dazzling blue sky
Bagger Vance made a feast for the eyes. Given the film a little slow pace
, but also makes it an ideal choice for a rainy Sunday afternoon
where you'd like to go for a walk and appreciate the scenery, but
are unable to thanks to rain.

That said, Bagger Vance still has its flaws. Writing is a bit
trodden and anyone who does not like cheese
would do well to stay away. Junnuh love interest subplot with golf promoter
Adele Invergordon (Charlize Theron) meanwhile feels with tacks and
unnecessary, as if somewhere along the production line to
someone decided that if Junnuh fully reconciled with himself had
have to do with a sweet country belle. The positive outweigh
despite the negative and if you're mood to relax,
slow pace of the film with a lot of subtleties that not everyone will appreciate,
can not go wrong with Bagger Vance. This is a movie to see
with their feet, cleaning the house and a large cup of hot chocolate
in his hand. And refreshing enough for a sports movie, not
feature a scene where a large crowd began cheering wildly while
over-the-top power ballads playing in the background, which should only be long enough
to raise an eyebrow or two.
I guess I'm really in the "win through adversity" films. I really enjoyed
films like "The Natural" and "The Legend of Bagger Vance."
Think the two are about equal. Both show
hero overcoming adversity through a game of the golden age that is what makes this great film.
If you showed a golf course or baseball movie today would not be credible as
because they no longer play for the love of the game, but by money.
This was set at a time when the game was more dignified. Although I never
much of Will Smith, the thought of him almost as a kind of comedy actor
but I think his greatness, his most successful when it started to make these kinds of theater productions
. Smith is sensational on its roll. If Redford had a mental picture of Bagger Vance
this movie before starting, I think we really saw how
Will Smith acted in this movie. Matt Damon was also good.

Overall, a great "feel good" movie. 9 / 10
