There has been a series of mysterious homicides on a Sioux Indian reservation in the Badlands of South Dakota. The investigation of homicides on Native American territory is within Federal jurisdiction, but the FBI is finding it difficult to gather information from the native Sioux. Ray Levoi, a promising but inexperienced field agent who happens to be one-quarter Sioux, is called in to assist in the investigation. As he probes deeper into the events on the reservation, he is torn between his duty to the FBI and his awakening sense of duty to the Sioux nation.

Watch Val Kilmer run a brilliant performance
is not only entertaining, to say the least, but moving.
Kilmer comes in front of his 1 / 4 Sioux background and
with the forces of "civilization" as an FBI agent. The forces of civilization are
infamous greed and corruption, or "special interests", as some politicians prefer to use
. The Sioux are accused of irresponsible, but proud. They are right on
pride. What is omitted by the forces of
civilization is the honor of these people.
particular the participation is the mysticism of the Sioux. FBI Agent Ray Levoi
(Kilmer) is gradually absorbed by this mysticism (such as
hearing), and opens a greater knowledge in the real conflict.
While probably most Americans can not claim Native American heritage
certainly can land. And belonging to land, as
American heritage that should be ours as well. This film inspires a feeling
these thoughts and feelings, especially if we feel attachment to
(and presumably love) these lands, the United States.
A more interesting observation about owls: a character says to
Levoi, the FBI agent, "the owl is the messenger, but someone environmental
going to die. "That's a common interpretation in Mexico also undoubtedly
downed by his Indians, which is the common vision of a
Barn Owl (Owl, in Spanish).
This mysticism is very powerful in this movie. What I recommend for
quality acting performances, and high spirituality.
This film, based on a true incident of the Oglala reservation
India in South Dakota, seamlessly combines great acting, largely by Native Americans
, taut direction, dialogue and delicious. It
stimulating, enlightening
either pace, and always entertaining. As a film as poignant
I've seen, along with such LA Confidential, life is
Bello,
as one of the top three films of 1990. Val Kilmer has never been better
and Graham Greene is simply superb, even better than it was in
Dances with Wolves. This is a must for the whole family
.
