Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian (Nicole Kidman) Owens have always known they were different. Raised by their aunts (Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing) after their parents' death, the sisters grew up in a household that was anything but typical--their aunts fed them chocolate cake for breakfast and taught them the uses of practical magic. But the invocation of the Owens' sorcery also carries a price--some call it a curse: the men they fall in love with are doomed to an untimely death. Now adult women with very different personalities, the quiet Sally and the fiery Gillian must use all of their powers to fight the family curse and a swarm of supernatural forces that threatens the lives of all the Owens women.

Practical Magic I liked a lot. I would not want to think because it was
two sisters and appears to be a "Chick Flick." However, there was much more
the film that the relationship between Sally and Gillian Owens.
For example, Gillian is possessed by the soul of his cruel mate after Sally
accidentally kills him too magic. Also, the curse
Owens plays a key role in the film. I was surprised by the film and I know that
should have done much more money, but when the release was probably
wrong. Good actors, and the right direction. I bet the book is good
too.
It seems that the director Griffith Dunne tried to keep this movie from being as powerful as
could have been. The film not to fully develop the city open
fear of witches (missing only a little), the full apprehension
"something wicked this way comes" with Jimmy (although the screenplay them allows
get away with it), and love magical link between Sally and Gary.
A few small changes, such as more favourable background music, would have made these points
support and counterpoint

Bullock and Kidman are very good as the central characters, very credible
so different, but servitude-sisters. Kidman is a bit too flaky sometimes
be a witch fully credible, but this characterization is going well enough in
context. Channing (who rarely enjoy) and Wiest are excellent in the main
support functions, surpassed only by Webb and Wood (Sally's daughters) that
show their ability to not * * Overacting potentially cutesy their duties.
On the contrary, they do a great job in saying variations on his mother and aunt
Gilly.
Overall, I think most aspects of direction and production could have used
a more iteration of quality improvement. Still, the film is quite
pleasant and worth seeing again some time.
