(drama, sci-fi, thriller)
At night and on weekends, four men in a suburban garage have built a cottage industry of error-checking devices. But, they know that there is something more. There is some idea, some mechanism, some accidental side effect that is standing between them and a pure leap of innovation. And so, through trial and error they are building the device that is missing most. However, two of these men find the device and immediately realize that it is too valuable to market. The limit of their trust in each other is strained when they are faced with the question, If you always want what you can't have, what do you want when you can have anything?

It is rare to find a truly engrossing film science fiction these days.
With each film, depending increasingly on special effects,
there are very few sci-fi films of little influence
classics as Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and Andrei Solaris
Tarkovsky (1972). Although, I suppose, even then, there was a 4-year wait in between
. Aranofsky del Pi is a film that would
the same kind of science fiction films as the two mentioned above, as well as Tetsuo: The Iron Man
, which was heavily influenced by Pi. And now, Prime
winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, is
another brilliant film that fits perfectly into that category.
First is the mind-bending at the highest level. The film is replete with esoteric
dialogue, mostly among the protagonists Aaron (
Shane Carruth) and Abe (David Sullivan). From what I can say, the movie is set during
the moment, and the lack of special effects makes
disturbingly everything seems possible. In addition, the manner in which the characters of each other
cut off mid-sentence, something that does not appear very often in films, joins
realism of the art of dialogue.
As you can see the credit lists above, near
unaided Shane Carruth did this movie, and as if that is not enough, it was made for a
negligible $ 7,000. The camera work is reminiscent of Pi and Memento
. His abrasive style perfectly fits the mood and atmosphere of
the world within the film. Carruth also realizes the importance and functionality
colour filters and uses significantly.
I think everything is going better in this film without knowing too
about it. If you are interested in dialogue-driven science-fiction,
quantum physics and causation, this is the film for you. Shane Carruth
has done an incredible achievement in a budget. Prime
should certainly is a classic and a movie that will
often imitated. The intricate twisted time-line
will leave with more questions than answers at the end of the film, so you are prepared to see this
2 or 3 more times to capture everything. Or at least pretend to
Aprovechémosla.
Remember the first time I saw The Matrix (please, not the terrible aftermath
) and could barely keep pace with what was happening,
trying to piece together the pieces of what was said in a
coherent story?
This movie was exactly the case. The first half is more or less fairly linear
(despite the frantic Altman-esque style around the world speaking at the top of
yes), but then it gets WEIRD and absolutely right that I flew out
. This film won an important prize Sundance, and that usually means that
not like him (especially pimping normally
Audience Award winners), but this movie, and for the first time filmmaker Shane Carruth,
absolutely deserves everything they get. I am just blown away.
Did you like Pi? If so, go see this.
by the way, attention to detail in the beginning is very great. Often in thrillers
with technical content, if you have a technical education that
have consciously ignore all that stupid movie crud
to pull into a good story. But this film outside a strip incredibly technical
credible history, with only a few distractions gaffs. In other words,
jargon of technology is good enough that you were not distracted and can focus on
history.
final comment: Yes, it is very difficult to follow the story line
in this film.
obviously I will not spoil, but I think that next
help when the film was kind of balls toward the end: Aaron
is the brunette boy, Abe is the blond hair type.
This film now has distribution and must keep an eye on that
in the fall.
