The story revolves around a dying father and his son, who is trying to learn more about his dad by piecing together the stories he has gathered over the years. The son winds up re-creating his father's elusive life in a series of legends and myths inspired by the few facts he knows. Through these tales, the son begins to understand his father's great feats and his great failings.

I approach Tim Burton films with some trepidation. Will "
Edward Scissorhands" or "Batman II? "With Burton can get a peculiar comedy, a thriller
dark, sweet or morality tale. And there's always the possibility of
Danny DeVito chomping on a raw fish.

"Big Fish" Burton combines humor with an unusual heart wrenching story of a father-son
deathbed reconciliation. Albert Finney and Ewan McGregor share
the role of Ed Bloom, one of the Big Fish of the film's title, while a
SUV-sized catfish plays the other. Bloom is a metaphorical and literal
Big Fish in small pond of Ashton, Alabama, in this tale told mostly through
flashback. Jessica Lange plays his wife and Billy Crudup plays the son, Will
, separated from his father during the past three years. Father and son
meet as Finney is dying of cancer.

Ed Bloom has devoted his life spinning his staff in the history
mythological proportions: an early encounter with a man very high becomes a battle with a giant-sized
house, rural village is depicted as heaven on earth;
military service during the Korean War morphs into a behind-the-lines mission that would
Duke Nukem proud. Originally a true believer, do you now know everything has
his father told him that it was not just an exageration
or even a tall story but an outright lie. In its effort to understand the truth behind
stories of his father who learns to love the man and mythology.
Burton and offers a magnificent punchline at the end of the film that left me
tickled and both crying, a real strange emotional state.

Burton deals with mythical themes in "Big Fish". In addition to the surface
story of generational tension between father and son
explores the metaphor of the Big Fish in a small pond to examine the impact Ed Bloom has taken
that has touched the lives his workaday contacts with colleagues, customers
(he is a seller of travel), and people in small towns throughout the South. Not exactly
"It's a wonderful life," he still manages to show how all
us - even the little fish - have profound effects on people around us.
And of course love - unilateral and reciprocity - control almost all
Ed's many adventures.

He is wonderful. You really cree two Britons and a Scottish
(Finney, Helena Bonham Carter, and McGregor) are natives of the small town
Alabama. Lange brings verve and dignity to the role of long "suffering"
wife - and still looks great (!)-- you cree she has had a long and loving life
with Finney and McGregor. DeVito is a delight in the role of a
efrain circus. But the scene-thief Bonham Carter is in the dual role of Jenny
and witch Crone.

I rated this movie stars and ten when you see that you do the same.
