Part four in the Hannibal Lecter Quadrilogy. Having escaped the asylum in "Silence of the Lambs," Dr Lecter goes into hiding in Florence, Italy. Back in America, Mason Verger, an old victim of the doctor's, seeks revenge. Disfigured and confined to a life-support system, he plans to draw Lecter out of his hiding place, using the one thing he truly cares for: Clarice Starling.

Hannibal is a pure pleasure! While a bit of pace unevenly (
the beginning was a little slow), David Mamet and Steve Zallian have done a good job of telling the story
basic Thomas Harris gave us - and, indeed The book was incredibly
underestimated by critics whose thought processes seem to have been damaged by
very little literature quality. People have complained that
it took ten years for Harris to write it - well, read it!
Is chock-a-block full of mythology, astronomy and religious themes that
weave his way around. He never break the threads. The film would have had to be
eight hours to begin exploring the depths of Plumb
Harris in the book.

Anthony Hopkins, as usual, brilliant! Julianne Moore is sexy and strong.
Giancarlo Giannini is excellent and worthy of Gary Oldman. My only complaint with the
smelter was Ray Liotta, only that he had no "."

Having seen this movie three times so far, I must say that look is
like peeling layers off an onion. You see increasingly with each: -
little treasures and nuggets to be found almost by accident.
The first time you saw him, left the theater not really knowing what they thought of him.
Then I found myself smiling. Like I did. When I went back again (and
again!) I liked more and more.

Gory? Not really - and I consider myself very sensitive to Gore.
I've seen much worse. The story has violence in it, and I think Ridley Scott
, while they represent an integral part of history, violence
handled with taste (if you pardon the expression).

Is it as good as Silence of the Lambs? It is not different from SotL. In
The silence that had a monster caged whose intensity was very focused. Here, we
a monster that is on the loose in a world very large, free to indulge in their passions
. Hannibal Lecter the essence remains unchanged. He is simply in a different situation
.

My only disappointment was as follows: The change ending. This was the most important. I realize
criticism can make Thomas Harris for the end of the book, saying
"Clarice would never have done this," but Clarice was the son of
Harris' imagination. The author is God, and God says that if a character is going to fazer something, we're going to second guess?

The duration of the film. It could have been a bit more and more attention
could have been put into the relationship between Hannibal and Clarice -
in particular, its obsession with her, and the time we spent together after the fiasco in
Verger Estate.

also was so bad that Mason Verger's sister, Margot, was written off
the script.

Overall, however, I thoroughly enjoyed the dark humor and adventure.
Hans Zimmer score is magnificent! This is a very good movie - not a great movie
but
a good one. Will not go into it expecting to see another Silence of the Lambs. It
not - and I do not think anyone has ever tried to say it is. Wait
see a strange and wonderful love story and an adventure! (It is too bad
about that ending!)


Many people are disappointed or flat-out disgusted by Ridley Scott's
track "The Silence of the Lambs." Certainly I understand their disgust
, but I prefer this to his predecessor Oscar win.
Has been a long, long time since a movie made me move from the screen into a real horror
, and I felt it was not yet possible. "Hannibal" 's controversial climax
deservedly took me by surprise. It may have been repugnant (well,
is certainly very disgusting), but so few movies these days have any lasting impact
and I appreciate that he did. And it is, after all,
about a cannibal, is not it? At some point in a series of films about a man
reader inclinations, we should see it at work.

of course, the horror of the climax is effective because the rest of the
film is so good. Hopkins, a little chunkier than the last time I saw him in this role
, positively oozes menace especially in his latest confrontation with
Pazzi (Giancarlo Giannini an excellent whose sad eyes make him the most sympathetic
character in the movie). Then there is Gary Oldman's Mason Verger
that is so than ever to include this provokes sympathy no matter how
suffered at the hands of the reader. And Julianne Moore is an improvement over
Jodie Foster that he always believed was underestimated.

But the best of "Hannibal" is the atmosphere in which Scott and his team wrap
history. A cloud of fear hangs over this movie, and beautiful
Florence, Italy, though still beautiful, seems obsessed by the reader
very presence in the city.
