This is a gentle, innocent film about the reflections of an aging man (David Morse), who returns to his home town after the death of his best friend. Memories of life at age 11 floods back as it was a magical time that changed his life. Three 11 year old children (Anton Yelchin as Bobby, Mika Boorem as Carol, and Will Rothaar as Sully) share their lives. Carol & Bobby have a special affection for one another including sharing a kiss "by which all others will be measured". Bobby lives with his mother (Hope Davis), a bitter, vain woman who looks for pleasures for herself without sharing much with her son. Into their lives comes a mysterious new boarder (Anthony Hopkins), who befriends the boy but generates distrust from the mother. As time passes, the man and boy share confidences and special powers are revealed. The man warns the boy to be on the lookout for the "lowmen", who were seeking him. The two share a summer's adventures and come to love one another before the inevitable happens. A confrontation with a school bully (Timothy Reifsnyder) also changes everyone.

For many, Stephan King is a horror, Lovecraftian chill that creeps
us in the dead of night. So when his vision of fantasy comes along,
that he hit a blind, disillusioned, disappointed by the sweetness of the
story.

Hicks director, screenwriter Goldman, and we have the team of Mr
young Yelchin and Hopkins have brought alive this artist's touch of
Lord King, in a craft, sensitive film only deviates from
the four walls of our mundane reality. In many subtle touches throughout the film,

us - even those of us that readers would say constant Mr King's laundry list

if he published it - are guided through Goldman's clever adaptation of the novel
original.

Better than the book? Worse? No, this humble viewer just
say that the film can stand on its own, if we are willing to simply let our eyes open

what can be.
After reading the short story by Stephen King, the film is quite faithful to the book and
like the book that leaves you with a feeling of "that was good but
is that? "I have a theory that when King wrote the story that he hopes
lead to a novel but for some reason or another cut as well as
the film and book.
In the film he left no doubt that the Lowmen are real but in
film never know if the imagination of the child or if
police and the elder is in the phase them.
The book also focuses on the supernatural part of the history of film and does not want
suspect feel quite slow for some
of spectator.
Hopkins is great, as usual, as is the boy, Anton Yelchin and the latter has
a great career ahead of him. One thing that does not come from this is that i
are usually always enjoy Castle Rock productions is this is no different.
