A Jewish male nurse (Ben Stiller) plans to ask his live-in girl friend (Teri Polo) to marry him. However, he learns that her strict father (Robert DeNiro) expects to be asked for his daughter's hand before she can accept. Thus begins the visit from Hell as the two travel to meet Mom (Blythe Danner) and Dad, who turns out to be former CIA with a lie detector in the basement. Coincidentally, a sister (Nicole DeHuff) also has announced her wedding to a young doctor (Thomas McCarthy). Of course everything that can go wrong, does, including the disappearance of Dad's beloved Himalayan cat, Jinxie.

Odd say that "Robert De Niro is the star of this comedy," but
that is the case here. One does not usually associate it with comedy, but
It is a very versatile player, can play a lot more characters and
that mafia-type thugs. He is also a very good comedienne darned, as he was the first
way back to the early 80's with Rupert Pupkin in "The King of Comedy
."

anyway, De Niro and Ben Stiller provide a lot of laughter in this
today's comedy. There is no point going into details, because there are a lot of other
comments here. I hate to see the "hero" of a film being a
chronic liar who is (Stiller "Greg Focker"), but that's not unusual
in the world of films. That, Blythe Danner and
excessive use of the name of God as heckling is annoying.

Apart from that, it's a fun movie that turned out to be a success
and rightly so. I imagine you can get a lot of laughter
watch this again and again. That would be better to do the sequel.
Meet the Parents / (2000) *** (four)

The main character in "Meet the Parents" is based Chicago nurse,
Greg Focker (pronounced just how it is spelled) who realizes how bad luck
person may be. He is about to propose to his schoolteacher girlfriend,
Pam (Teri Polo), when her sister Debbie (Nicole DeHuff)
calls and explains that her new boyfriend, Dr. Bob Banks (Tom McCarthy), received a blessing from his father
before he asked the question. This information does Greg
reconsider their method of choice, but instead jumps at the chance to meet Pam's parents
unreasonably when flying to the east coast two weeks later to Debbie
arrange the wedding.

At the airport, attendees loose Greg's plots. So
comes without any baggage. Once at Pam's house of his parents, exchanged greetings
and aquatint with others. Pam's parents,
Jack and Dina Byrnes (Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner) to learn about Greg unusual surname,
he does not like cats, and is a nurse, all facts not
Settle well with Pam's father. Greg makes the management of Don Carlos with a pleasant stay
supply of rare flowers. However, while Pam told Greg that his dad is
in the hobby of rare flowers, which does not seem too impressed.

further complications ensue, especially when he learns of Jack's Greg
peculiar suspicious behaviour and gadgets, like a polygraph and
hidden cameras placed at all rooms of the house, as well as the meeting Pam's brother,
Denny (Jon Abrahams), and Debbie's soon to be in law, Larry (
James Rebhorn), and Linda Banks (Phillis George), and Pam's wealthy ex-girlfriend,
Kevin Rawley (Owen Wilson). Soon, Greg possibilities of receiving permission
Jack's marriage of his daughter becoming less likely as their bad luck
gets only increase.

The film introduces Greg and Pam silly with peculiarities that come later in
history. Pam's parents are also quite treatment, the film is not going
on the top, but portrayed with humor and charismatic serious ingenuity. It
De Niro and Stiller to do the movie, however. They form a very effective
comic chemistry, even more fun than the likable shtick
between De Niro and Billy Crystal in "Analyze This."
Phenomenal filmmakers exploit the tension between Jack and Greg, and
place in a hilarious situation after another. Although

outrageous and sometimes explosively funny, director Jay Roach takes
the plot seriously. His previous films, including the Austin Powers movies
and "Mystery, Alaska", have had problems with taking anything seriously. But
"Meet the Parents" has emotional connections, develops strong empathy for
Greg, and we truly believe that has something valuable to be missed: Pam.

The film does not develop fully the romantic chemistry between Ben Stiller and Teri Polo
, hence, there were times when I simply do not cree
the two were truly in love. The relationship is sometimes trite and contrived
. There are also major plot nuggets left only partially
considered: Jack's pot-head son, who could have contributed much more to
materials related to drugs, is left as a plot device to offer another round
conflicts within Jack and Greg.

I loved the whimsical performances and timely cast.
Ben Stiller reprises her "There's Something About Mary" role, cute and charming
obscured Zany flippancy. Robert De Niro is perfect on paper
was born to play, with serious attitude that results in the main part of the film
amusing moments. Blythe Danner is also charming in a kind of role that
is becoming too routine for her.

"Meet the Parents" is one of the funniest movies of the year. It is
hearings with a solid story that does not interfere with the comic
materials, but also contributes to it. The first-class performances and lively direction
also elevate the film to a higher level. During a year in which
effective comedies are an endangered species, "Meet the Parents" is a milestone
in light entertainment.
