I have seen "Bloody Sunday" now twice - once on the big screen and once
on DVD - and Don Mullen read the book, "Bloody Sunday eyewitnesses." This film is a description
very realistic definition of the moment "problems" in
Northern Ireland. The hand-held cameras and grainy film style
felt more like a documentary than a movie, which of course is the intention. Since
another reviewer mentioned, the acting is very natural throughout. This
take some time to get started, but once the shooting starts
snag the viewer as a sledgehammer. Very powerful.
The film jumps so often scene to scene that is sometimes
distraction, but is much less annoying in this second time around.
And, having seen once with and without subtitles once, I must say that although
subtitles (optional on the DVD) are intrusive
are quite welcome. I love the Irish accent, but sometimes it can be hard for me
decipher, and much of the dialogue in the movie is muted.
It's good to know what is being said.
As for objectivity, of course, the film is inclined - to the era
situation. But it is not unreasonable biased. The British are not shown as a dimension
demons - in particular, Nicholas Farrell does a great job
Brigade transmit McLellan ambiguity and even the disapproval of
course taken against their will by the alleged "observer", Maj. Gen.
Ford (who, if the film has a villain, is the leading candidate.)
At one point early in several paragraphs are discussing prospects of the day, and disclose how they are tired of
be harassed, fired and other abuses by
native population. This makes the day's events more understandable. This does not excuse the cold-blooded
Gunning down of 27 people -
no excuse for that - but at least you can see a contributing factor. And the protesters are
demonstrated once or twice, firing again. (The key here is shoot BACK -
evidence indicates that no demonstrators fired up the first two demonstrators were wounded
. And the few who tried to scattered gunfire
were quickly discouraged by their compatriots. Later in the day when the IRA did go into action,
but not until after the bloodshed in Bogside was over.) Ivan's
Cooper (James Nesbitt) words at the end of the film is
showed to be all too true in the years since the incident. The IRA was unstable
legs at the time, but has never lacked support from the January 30,
1972.
The film is a powerful lesson in connection with the misuse of force,
and governments around the world - including my own country, the United States
States -- should take very seriously. It has some flaws, but I think it deserves the
awards he has received. 8 / 10 points.
I've seen this movie about 2 years and was very impressed with the realism of the
film.Having served with the British army in Northern Ireland
many years later I found the atmosphere and the overall
appearance and manner of paragraphs very precise, as I have seen many films on
Ireland when it comes to represent British soldiers who
unfortunately, could in fact a little better. I consider myself to be
open mind and understands and sympathizes with the local Catholic population
during these events like this is or was more or less how things are
with regard to the Catholic population in North Ireland. For me,
the main points were that the film was made in a documentary style
that the facts shown in a straight to the point
form without any fancy computer effects or handsome faces
portray the main players. well done for the production team!
