After happily flunking out of several Prep Schools, Igby escapes into the bohemian underworld of Manhattan. His darkly comic trip—shared by a deviant cast of characters, including his terminally bored, part-time lover Sookie, his Godfather's trophy mistress Rachel, and smack-dealing performance artists Russel—veers from bizarre to tragic in Igby's ultimately noble attempt to keep himself from "going down."

This film does not make us feel any of his characters, but
is so full of memorable vignettes, it is difficult to forget this.
It's dark and depressing, but at the same time consistent in tone and
so full of wonderful performances that just sticks in his memory.

Igby life consists of a disappointment after another. Soon
ruinantly meet their self-absorbed mother (Susan Sarandon), which treats its
as well as full-grown adult males. "I called Mimi, because" heinous one "
would be somewhat cumbersome, 'Igby comments. And there is his schizophrenic
dad (Bill Pullman) who has long been confined to a "home for
befuddled. Igby's preppy and his brother Oliver (Ryan Phillippe)
nothing but contempt for his mother. When Igby
has just been kicked out - again - for his latest preparation for school, he is sent to a military academy
his mother, but he swiped his credit card and absconds to a < br> airport hotel in the Midwest. Soon
dishonorably discharged and sucks his way to his mother by the new rich friend DH Baines,
wonderfully played by Jeff Goldblum, who almost seems to play himself.

Two women play a crucial role in their lives, both of them that meets at a cocktail
"DH" 's lavish Hamptons home. There is Rachel, a
memorable role of Amanda Peet, really surprising. She knew that her face, but
I can not remember another of its functions. And there are
Sookie Sapperstein (Claire Danes), a waitress in the match and couple of years older
university student, with whom Igby falls in love. But his brother is
becoming a romantic rival or Sookie and when Igby accidents DH 's
elegant Manhattan apartment, where Rachel is taking residence
becomes a tangled each Again downward spiral.

for the first time director Burr Steers, who also screenplay, it
filled with some very smart, observative acidic and dialogue, and Kieran Culkin
shows that can carry a film with a very good performance. And where he has
the past four years? Since this has not appeared in any
other films. In the IMDb bulletin boards are some hilarious
speculation about how he is supposedly "in the bush".
I do not know that. He's probably going through some rough times, but I hope he'll be
'll be right back. It would be a shame to lose a player like him.

Camera Obscura --- 8 / 10
Due to the poor review I read I think I should introduce another
giving a better image of the film then the other reviewer. All
things he said were not clear that it seemed very clear to me. Yes, Susan Sarandon
made the character of giving birth to two boys, except that one was illegitimate
Jeff Goldblums character, and the other was his true son of her husband who
was driven insane by his meddling. Whereas the other
Igby reviewer felt that it was a mess of a film and compared it to The Royal Tennenbaums
(which I agree is a total mess and completely unenjoyable), Igby
I felt that was a Refreshing black humor. What exactly do you get when you cross the
comedy and drama. It has a lot of heart, and excellent leadership
insightful, real wit and acuity in their approach to
material ... I thoroughly enjoyed. He came across a brain
experience for me. Highly recommended.
