Jarhead (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows "Swoff" (Gyllenhaal), a third-generation enlistee, from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, sporting a sniper's rifle and a hundred-pound ruck on his back through Middle East deserts with no cover from intolerable heat or from Iraqi soldiers, always potentially just over the next horizon. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fields in a country they don't understand against an enemy they can't see for a cause they don't fully fathom... Foxx portrays Sergeant Sykes, a Marine lifer who heads up Swofford's scout/sniper platoon, while Sarsgaard is Swoff's friend and mentor, Troy, a die-hard member of STA-their elite Marine Unit.

More than anyone else, I imagine that the U.S. The soldiers would have a more specific
view this movie than anyone. They were there,
were in it, nobody knows better than them.

And there are two types of soldiers: those who loved, which took
great pride and honour to serve their country ... and those who saw him as

some TV work, adapted the recent "Planet of the Apes" remake and "Cast

people knew. It is about the Corps, and is about brotherhood.
Our main character, Swof, judges never, never mentions politics, is
only the best Marine he knows how to be. As

Swof's friend Troy said at a given moment, "F *** politics. We're here.
Everything else is bull ****." What is the movie is all about, really.
This is what happened. Take it or leave it.
I was reluctant to see this film. As a veteran of Desert Shield / Storm,
I spent my first 90 days in the theatre in the Co-Weapons of
TO Swofford's Battalion. Later he moved to the 1 st Bn of 7 Marines, but with
is in the same unit for some of the same time I felt that
could offer readers a unique perspective on the film precision.

From a purely aesthetic perspective I thought the film was well done.
He was very good, and the script was well written, witty, and
accurate. The actors are well suited to their roles.
My personal preference for a good plot would have been disappointed if it were not for
my personal interest in the film. In my opinion this movie is a
outstanding drama-documentary, to adjust their expectations accordingly
. If you're waiting for a plot line driving and all
accompanying the dramatic tension, then I think you will be disappointed
(as I have heard many comments that doubts were leaving the theater).
But if you think of it as an opportunity to get an idea
at a point in history, and view it as some of those who lived it did, then I think
be impressed.

Many people may think that the obscenity of some of the interactions
was exaggerated effect. But whatever someone's personal judgement that
behavior, which is the closest representation of the Marine Corps (or soldiers)

Are there parts of the film that I find it incredible? Yes. But things are not
essential. There is a scene, even in the trailer,
in which everyone is firing their weapons into the air. I was not there,
but I can not imagine a violation of discipline on that scale. I can not say
is impossible, but I am doubtful. But if it's true or not is not important
. In its essence this is a movie about Marines, the way they
adjusted to the Marine Corps, each other, and a war. If there are a few details
incredible, then we can be thankful that Hollywood does not impose a
car-persecution for us.

This is a film about the Marines. At that time, there were very few who rejected
scholarships to Ivy League schools come in. We went to
strange background. We obscene. We did want to get our kills.
Many of us are frustrated that our war was only 100 hours in length.
We knew we were filling the footsteps of giants - the Marines of Iwo,
The Chosin, Belleau Wood - and I think we all wanted an opportunity to earn a place alongside
men. In our wild, adrenalized youth,
aspirations only took the form of crude oil in search of a kill.
Or at least that is how he put into perspective 15 years later.

If you see this film, try to remind yourself to 18 (as I was).
Suspend your judgement of obscenity and vulgarity until you are sure you have
differently. I can not speak for Swofford,
but I am still incredibly proud of my service. The folly of this movie
reminds me why: because it is characteristic of the immense difficulties that our youth has
on behalf of the rest. Will Watch the characters
stressed? It is not hyperbole. We were 18 and
we thought we were going to die there. However, at H hours around the world marched North.
In my opinion, better than filling some big shoes before the judge.

So do not go into this movie champing at the bit to pigeon-hole
as "Anti" or "Pro" war, with all the pre-fab rhetoric that comes with this

moment in history. Swofford has invited you in our memory. They are not
