Wonderful performances, almost real. Beautiful
black and white cinematography. It shows the true love of a mother, her
driving situations that she does not want to make your child happy.
Melodramatic story that will make you mourn. And also make you look at Italian cinema
done in 60 years.
Mama Rome, played by a surprising Anna Magnani, desperately wants a good, respectable
for his life 17-year-old son, played by Ettore Garafalo.
She would do anything for him. If at a time when she sold her body for the

streets of Rome in part as an act of rebellion against a failed marriage of convenience
, which must now resume the work of raising funds to pay a
Threatening former pimp (played by the cold, charismatic Franco Citti),
while raising a few lire to get his son a few nice things in
side.
She implores a priest to help her son find a decent job and makes a host of

other things to try to get away from Ettore life of a
hood.

The problem is that her son as she is, presumably, was (and still

capable of being) - a rebellious, angry child drew the street life. Also,
almost instinctively, falls for a young prostitute who may or may not resemble
his young mother.

This is a great movie. Pasolini is deeply concerned about these characters. They are
Ettore and his mother Madonna and Christ as a prostitute and sometime
is
be criminal? Perhaps. Despite their sins are not necessary for their survival
, their difficulties and sufferings to take a religious martyr
quality. Mamma Roma is lost, heroic sinner of the lowest class Italian

that sometimes can fight for themselves through a better job respectable
faith and redemption. But she can not do enough for her and her son
being virtuous, so it should be resorted to the streets from time to time. Well

due to their environment or their temperament, both products of her mother,

throughout his impatience youth and vigor, can not resist the effort

Rome looks and feels like a prison in this movie. The city feels walled off

of apartment buildings, the entry in which it feels like entering a

an ancient city - perhaps the old Jerusalem. Outside the modern buildings

stand patches of ancient ruins. Ettore lives his life between these
overlooked, neglected ruins, which might prefigure their own future.
If this is to be his future will not be for lack of love and effort
