Over four fifths of the country's north, the public gets a rare treat
. It is a film which deals with a serious problem, sexual harassment,
into a serious manner. It is a fiction that is well shot, directed and acted
. It is nothing short of tragic then, that the last fifth of
the film is one of the worst bring to the screen this year. Screenwriter Michael Seitzman
is no stranger to much overblown, but plane,
melodrama. One can see her here on Earth for a taste of what ridiculous
its conception of human interaction. But how is that the majority of
film is not only watchable, but truly exceptional, when the order was
so terrible? The answer probably has more than a little to do with
director Niki Caro. In 2002, Whale Rider Caro guided
another dramatic story about a woman who defies the gender of their duties
community. This is a beautiful story and participation and the north
starts out the same way.

Presenting a fictional account of the nonfiction book Class Action: The Story of Lois Jensen
and historic event that changed
Sexual Harassment Law, the North begins in the booth with
Josey Aimes (Charlize Theron) is grilled about his sex life. The film goes back to
Aimes' recruitment for the mine and the problems that she and other
working women face in that country. The harassment was widespread. Not only is
catcalls and sexist expressions, although they are. It was in many cases
more or less the sexual assault. When Josey
feel able to complain she could do at the office of Human Resources, with a calendar pinup
watching his back. It's the sort of
openly hostile workplace that really makes you wonder, as Josey's father (Richard Jenkins
) does, how is it that so many men can behave so badly? They
not act against women in the same way a company picnic so why fazer they do at work?

Josey's struggle is not easier for most of their female coworkers.
They need the high-paying mine jobs as much as it does and the impact
to speak out have been well illustrated. Unemployment
families with hunger and are not welcome ideas when there is no reason to
cree that their complaints were acted upon. Or at least, acted positively
. Josey is subjected to degrading and brutal reprisals
as are some of the other women despite not complained.
Particularly repugnant, although it is difficult to choose the worst
so many options, is an instance where Sherry (Michelle Monaghan) is
semen in his locker.

Josey finally comes to court only to have his sex life brought to trial.
Whether this is done is no surprise. In the case Jensen v. Eveleth Taconite
women were subjected to thorough examination of his personal life
after a judge granted the company lawyers' access to their medical records
. When the film begins to falter when it comes to defending
Josey sexual life. Josey's sex life is not the point and was never
. By focusing on that focuses less on how she and her coworkers
were systematically terrorized at work. Although his lawyer Bill White (Woody Harrelson
) makes a job suited to refute the arguments, arguments
are those that do not need to be addressed. All scenes of the court versus
just that.

Aimes struggles are based largely on the events of Lois Jensen
Job-like struggle. Should the film nevertheless, is trying to rearrange
them perfectly and add "Oscar moments." Many of the actions, even those that seem
over the top, actually happened. But they
did not happen as they do in the north. Particularly regrettable
courtroom is a confrontation between White and Bobby Sharpe (
Jeremy Renner) and a surrogate father-son talk between Kyle (Sean Bean) and
Sammy (Thomas Curtis). The terrible Hollywood and legalisms
almost absurdist melodramatic conclusion is a tremendous disappointment after a great start
and a half. It should be noted that mistakes happen when the movie strays
further from the true story, the next Michael Seitzman
perhaps across. That does not mean that it is not worth it
see or do not have bright moments, as Sissy Spacek is a woman
wife to strike, is only one that ends halfway decent would have done
this is one of the best films of the year. Instead,
abandons an important and well done for the sake of history, what? Well, at least it's better
disclosure.
What happened?! I saw Whale Rider, loved, and really expected a sensitive and intelligent
next film by Niki Caro. But
ideas in this movie has been so dated. Niki Caro, obviously, are subjects on
girls or young women frustrated by (often violently) male power. To prove it, the film simplifies
men in the level soapy "callous brute" or
"tambourine". Without complex male antagonists to play against women
became so reduced and simplified, mostly appear as victims or
unable to think for themselves (for example, why not put a
lock your room in exchange for keeping the door to men, or photo
evidence of intimidation?). Sometimes the film is shot like a thriller but this
over-promised threat, leaving the story where sagging
should have been in peak hours. As for the internal logic, why, in court
scene, is there so much Ranting about how a person
sexual history should be inadmissible, however, is Josie Aimes sexual history
that ultimately swings in public opinion in his direction?
There are other structural issues but, ultimately reads like a movie that cast its net too wide in
very muddied waters.
