Beginning in the 1930's, "The English Patient" tells the story of Count Almasy who is a Hungarian map maker employed by the Royal Geographical Society to chart the vast expanses of the Sahara Desert along with several other prominent explorers. As World War II unfolds, Almasy enters into a world of love, betrayal, and politics that is later revealed in a series of flashbacks while Almasy is on his death bed after being horribly burned in a plane crash.

I can understand why some people think that this movie is boring. I think
calls much more to people who are used to the pace of classic books
.

I am sure that many of those who hated that are much more like a co-worker of mine who
said: "Books? I do not have a book since I was in high school. "I have checked

some of the names of those who reviled this movie and I can assure
seems that many of them think Armaggedon was an" impressive "and the movie was a Chris Farley

"Comic Genius." And that's O.K. Taste is an individual thing
. My sensitivity

tell me that the English patient is a very good movie

it takes effort to appreciate. Much of this film is very subtle. This is not a
holiday for the brain. (Hey, sometimes the brain needs a holiday, and
stupid movies that offer!) Also is not a cynic of the film. This is
idealism, tragedy and sorrow. About how people may want the best, but it

have all collapsed because of bad decisions, and must continue to lament

never be able to remedy the situation. It is not so much a love story as a tragic
. Therefore, many people destroyed because of the selfishness of two
people can not (not?) Control themselves.

I ask those who thought the film boring to see again when you
feel able to pay full attention to what happens in the film and how different bits of dialogue
agree subtle suggestions of how
characters are feeling and thinking. This film has an investment of time

thought and emotion. If this investment is made, I think most people see that
will feel rewarded.


PTSD is like a long cool drink of water after crawling across the Sahara
classic movie fans who have been too long deprived of some film
Magic! Not only is it beautifully photographed, but the characters are perfectly portrayed
. If you're looking for the movie to be a mirror of the
book, you will be seriously disappointed. By contrast, is an excellent
"companion" for the book, and I think that is what Anthony Minghella
intended. Ralph Fiennes is probably the most beautiful man in the world;
not to mention a brilliant actor. Juliette Binoche is the posterchild of
vulnerability and enthusiasm child. And, of course, I will go see any movie in which
Kristin Scott Thomas is featured. She just has to be the best
since the likes of actress Deborah Kerr. So much was promised with this
film, and therefore is delivered!
