Based on the Bram Stoker Award nominee short story by cult author Joe R. Lansdale, Bubba Ho-tep tells the "true" story of what really did become of Elvis Presley. We find Elvis (Bruce Campbell) as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his "death", then missed his chance to switch back. Elvis teams up with Jack (Ossie Davis), a fellow nursing home resident who thinks that he is actually President John F. Kennedy, and the two valiant old codgers sally forth to battle an evil Egyptian entity who has chosen their long-term care facility as his happy hunting grounds.

I must confess that I had reservations before seeing this movie. I thought it would be
some God-awful movie loaded with child sophomoric jokes,
affected effects, and inane dialogue. Some of those elements do surface,
but this film was a real pleasure to sit through. Imagine if you can
that Elvis, the King of Rock and Roll, switched places with an Elvis impersonator
and now lives a sad, lost his life in a small, run-down nursing home in
East Texas. Add to the mix Ozzie Davis as a man
is convinced that John F. Kennedy and a mummy that sucks the lifeblood of
geriatric residents and you have the basic premise behind Bubba Ho-tep.
But beyond all that and jokes about the genitals of Elvis and other low compared
references is a film with an enormous amount of heart and a
message on the elderly in our society and how we , As a society,
betrayed them and cast to one side. The script and direction effective
the ghost of Don COSCARELLI make this film work on several levels.
This is a comedy. This is a tragedy. This is a horror film. It has all the elements
. You care about the characters and are drawn in this small seeds
world. The film has the greatest asset is its performance.
Davis gives a fine turn and added credibility to the movie, but Bruce Campbell as the king
I only bowled. I had seen before, but I had never seen this
act as before. You soon forget Campbell is acting and
think Elvis is really there - now 68 and destitution. Campbell's
inflection, Mannerisms, poise and melt and blend beautifully into Elvis.
This was one of the most pleasant surprises that come along each
so often.
Very true to Joe R Lansdale's strange and wonderful story, this film
is a real jewel. The essence of history is that Elvis (Bruce Campbell
) did not die (this was an impersonator who exchanged places with which
popped his clogs), and is spending the rest of his days in the rest of Texas
home with a busted hip and growth at the end of his Pecker, and he is happy
to none. That is until a soul sucking mummy is presented in the rest
Elvis house and is forced to act to defend his home and is
residents. The union with another resident, an old black man who
cree que ha JFK (Ossie Davis) decide to take over companies and
defeat Bubba Ho-tep.
If that sounds strange, it is also very funny, very entertaining
and strangely moving. It also has the best performance of King
that this Elvis fan has ever seen! Bruce Campbell, I salute you!

leave before the original story by Joe R. Lansdale This guy is true
narrator.
