Joe Pendleton is a quarterback preparing to lead his team to the superbowl when he is almost killed in an accident. An overanxious angel plucks him to heaven only to discover that he wasn't ready to die, and that his body has been cremated. A new body must be found, and that of a recently murdered millionaire is chosen. His wife and accountant, the murderers, are confused by this development, as he buys the L.A. Rams in order to once again quarterback them into the Superbowl.

Heaven Can Wait is a milestone in Warren Beatty throughout the race. The
produced, co-directed, co-written and starred in this comedy fantasy
"probability and results." At first Muhammad Ali was supposed to be
cast for the role, but he turned it down, and it's a good thing that
did. Beatty does a great job of handling the work of
play three different characters, as he will quarterback of businessman and
back again. Warren also has strong support from Julie Christie (who previously worked
Beatty), James Mason (as the mysterious Lord
Jordan), Dyan Cannon (as the employer of the treacherous wife), Jack Warden
(as coach Max Corkle), Buck Henry (as the escort), and Charles Grodin
. This film is certainly well-deserved Oscar nominations 9, but
should have won more than one.
I could not think of any other way to describe it in the abstract -
so I used the word "class". That is, with class.
Probably stems from the fact that the film is done in such good taste - and very attractive witty humor.

entire cast makes an absolutely perfect job in this movie. From
Warren Beatty, James Mason (James Mason is physically capable of putting in a
bad performance?), A Buck Henry, Jack Warden.

Perhaps the two best performances are Charles Grodin (viscose
personal assistant of Leo Farnsworth), and Dyan Cannon as the psycho Julia Farnsworth.
Both are brilliant in their roles.

Very worth seeing. It also is worth more than its IMDB
6.9 rating.
