Warren Beatty was a budding genius when this was done - a kind of Orson Welles
. Determined to bring French novel sensibilité then to Hollywood,
created a specific vision. Most movies are about other movies, and all
references here are French.

This film transformed Hollywood, and launched a dozen major races.
It is a historic landmark and should be seen only on that basis. However, its value in
their time is that it is so different. I remember seeing when I was new,
in the short period before it was withdrawn by the failure. (Later
came back.) That first selection was a shock: the shot in the face in the bank,
both shot in the face of the brother and wife, the bodies dancing in the
end are different, but the real shock was the expansion of our collective conscience
eye. You had to be there - not the same now. The reason

not have the same effect today is because it was so
success in establishing a new tone. However, two scenes still have the power: the first
with a scenario almost desperate Faye whose naked eye only happens in
