Following the death of his employer and mentor, Bumpy Johnson, Frank Lucas establishes himself as the number one importer of heroin in the Harlem district of Manhattan. He does so by buying heroin directly from the source in South East Asia and he comes up with a unique way of importing the drugs into the United States. As a result, his product is superior to what is currently available on the street and his prices are lower. His alliance with the New York Mafia ensures his position. It is also the story of a dedicated and honest policeman, Richie Roberts, who heads up a joint narcotics task force with the Federal government. Based on a true story.

American Gangster is one of the best movies I've seen recently and that
is a pleasure to see even if you are not a fan of movies gangsters. The
story is more captivating than I expected, I must say, after
Frank Lucas (Denzel Washington) - African-American drug lord who raised above
everyone, including the Italian Mafia - and Richie Roberts (Russell Crowe),
honest police in a city full of corruption, a sort of Frank Serpico, but with less
casings.

Denzel Washington offers an excellent execution of a man
calm and patient even stop the heart fierce in some points, and without fear
likable ambitious, but as always. His performances are always
incredible, is a great actor, the largest African-American players of all time
I dare say, is simply a pleasure to see him in any role.

Russell Crowe gives a good performance, is one of the actors who
never disappoint in my opinion and I think that there is great chemistry between them
(Washington and Crowe), although some scenes
bring face to face. Richie Roberts is in jeopardy as one of the few policemen
who actually do their job and refuse to take bribes so that it seems to me that there is a strong similarity between
Richie Roberts and Frank Serpico (Al Pacino
1973).

Cuba Gooding Jr. could have received a larger share, or more scenes because
It is a very talented player and he proved himself many times
he is more than capable of offering excellent performances.

The drama is less than expected, but the film is very good rhythm and
never boring despite that lasts more than two hours.
Everything fits perfectly and there is an excellent presentation
antithesis of the rich life of Frank Lucas towards life that ruin drug
every day, every hour, every minute ... I strongly recommend

gangster film fans, really
to viewers who enjoy good movies, because this film is above average and you
enjoy every second of it.
The story of Frank Lucas is a fact that shows that it is more interesting than fiction
. The fact that this character really exists
still do not remember, of course intrigues me. I suppose I was too young to
the time they were broke. Now approaching later I found forty
yearning for further investigation after seeing this film.

I feel Ridley Scott was surprised a person like Frank Lucas
was really capable of doing what he did and live to tell about it. I certainly share that
amazement. The care with which tells the story
serves well. Although it is basically a gangster film is not
particularly in the graphic violence, except in a few scenes. Even Denzel's
Russel and image of the two central characters are not as dark as
the more usual stereotypical gangster / COP person ... Even
there is a sense of fatalism and the ever-present danger as the viewer knows or
law enforcement, government, or going to let this man the Mafia's drug empire to
go.

To sum up I think this is an excellent telling of a true crime story
. It is intriguing, entertaining and, of course, serves as a reminder
precaution to remain vigilant in the fight against drugs.
