Stanley Kubrick
rating:7.70
This movie remains my all time favorite. It is a delicious, adult
meditation on youth, obsession and sex. While it is not completely faithful to the novel
, which captures the spirit of the book, yet
is a masterpiece in its own terms. To fully appreciate what has Kubrick
fact, comparing this version of Adrian Lyne remake of anemia.
Kubrick chose his cast wisely for the most part. James Mason
conveys both the interior tormented soul and courteous gentleman outwards
with such charm that you can not simply disregard for his betrayal. Shelley Winters
never been better than the strident, man-hungry shrew. Sue Lyon is
very believable in a complex role - physically attractive, child
sometimes in their behavior, but in silence the calculation and manipulation. The weakest link is
Peter Sellers, who found Kubrick's fun enough to let him
run on too long. Sellers was a brilliant performer, but not
right for this movie. As Quilty, that the fine. When passed by others,
that most intrusive and tends to alter the tone of what is happening.
The need to care about censorship in 1962, works really
in favor of the film. There is a sophisticated subtlety that
counterbalances the grisly affair. In fact, even prefer the
edited by the television version of the scene in which Humbert and Lolita
first have sex. Here are just whispers in his ear before a suggestive
fade-out. In the full version of the movie, the scene continues with
to discuss a silly game in the summer camp. The less said the better
.
"Lolita" has aged very well. Its theme is relevant today, and
careful craftsmanship that went into this production is up
nice. I think it is the best Kubrick film - which tend to be more self-indulgent
as in the passage of time. This is a gem. You can not overlook
are rightly provocative title sequence and Nelson Riddle Luscious for
score piano.
What a surreal, dreamlike world created by Stanley Kubrick
this intriguing film!
The book, a renowned classical 20th century, is sometimes disturbing,
hysterically funny, uncomfortably erotic, and heartbreakingly sad. The film, made in the
60,
capture many of those same feelings generated by the book - but censorship
time could only allow Kubrick to suggest the most intimate and
erotic aspects of the book - which manages slyly doing.
Is difficult to believe now,
but when this movie was released, it was felt that it was incredibly
provacative and absolutely for adults only.
The film becomes its own artistic statement Kubrick --- is not limited to
try to recreate the scenes and history of the book - although much of it is
there - but
that uses the period of music, speech, clothing and mannerism to create their own
imaginative and fascinating world. At the same time, we sure did not finish
care about the characters. Within the exceptional cast, the special note yield
Shelly Winters, da - her character is both funny and so sad and achingly
pathetic. This is a true tour-de-force acting. In several cases we go
laughing in their rejection of their reality, to feel so sorry for her.
She creates a truly memorable character. "
The film ranks up there with all the Kubrick films spectacfular
made during his surprising and very unique career --- each of his films is so distinctive
< br> - and Lolita is one of the most distinctive of them
everything.
